Summery:(REQUESTED) What happens when the news about Lewis move to Ferrari gets leaked and all eyes turn to you.
Warning: cursing? (Don't remember if there's any, but just incase be warned)

Lewis Masterlist
You've been in a relationship with Lewis for a little over two years, and itâs safe to say that theyâve been the best two years of your life. You couldnât dream of a better boyfriend even if you tried, you donât think youâve shown Lewis or his fans any bad thing. You feel like youâve always been friend;y with the fans, never responded to the hate you got for dating the 7 times world champion, and youâve gotten a lot.
On February 1st you woke up to Lewis getting out of the bed, you blinked seeing him looking at his phone as he walked out of the room. His back is tense, you slip on Lewisâs shirt from the day before as you get out of the bed, you follow him out and see him pacing back and forth in the living room. You gave him a questioning look but he doesnât give you any indication of whatâs going on.
â-I just donât understand how itâs already out.â Lewis says on the phone and you start to piece together what happened. âOnly a few people know about the move.â
You close your eyes knowing how the media will eat this up and be all over the news analysing everything that ever happened and will happen this season, you go to the kitchen and put the kettle on for some tea, you also put some food in Roscoâs bowl. It takes Lewis another 10 minutes for him to finish the call. you go to his side with the tea, he gives you a thankful smile which you return.
âWho leaked it?â You ask him knowing that this is whatâs going to be on his mind the most.
âWe donât know yet.â He groans and leans back on the sofa, his head tilted up, you rub his arms and lean in and press a kiss to his cheek.
âWhat will you do?â You ask him softly, not taking your eyes off him.
âNot address it for now, wait a bit to see what reactions the people will have.â Lewis says and you sigh.
âOkay, well donât overthink it, it happened, we have under a month before the season starts, so letâs enjoy the last bit of your time off, come on, what do you feel like having for breakfast?â
âHmm, anything you are Iâll love.â Lewis says with a smile leaning over, you kiss him softly on the lips and get up to head to the kitchen to start on breakfast.
*
you knew this wasnât the end of it and that the teams will look into who leaked the news of Lewisâs move from Mercedes to the media, fans also were on it and had their theories and as the last bit of vacation came, they got wilder and wilder, the thing you truly didnât expect os for the fans to turn their sights on you. those that hated you looked like they doubled with the amount of hate youâve had on your socials, youâre being accused of everything under the sun, youâre being bullied and shamed for your looks, for not being trustworthy, for being a gold-digger and everything else under the sun. nothing really affected you from all that hate, as long as it;s coming from people that donât know you, you believe that itâs done out of jealousy and want for what you have, they donât know you so why would their words affect you? doesnât mean you like it, or that it should happen in the first place, but you do slow down on your social media presence, but you don't sit and let it consume you, you continue living your life and let them talk.
Lewis and you are in England for the last preparation before the start of the season, heâs been super busy so you spent the last few days barely seeing him, spending your time with his family and your friends in the UK. so youâre a bit surprised when you get back from shopping with his mu, to see him on the sofa with his phone.
âHey, when did you get back?â You ask, smiling, putting your bags to the side, and walking to his side.
âTwo hours ago.â He says not looking up from his phone, you hum and lean in for a kiss but he moves last second so your lips fall onto his cheek instead, and before you could react heâs standing up and heading to the bedroom.
âLew, is something wrong?â You ask and stand up following him slowly, confused, your brain goes over everything that has happened lately trying to find something wrong that youâve done but coming up blank.
âNo.â He says simply, you frown not believing him, heâs acting cold, itâs a stark contrast to his usual self, he goes to the closet and closes the door, you stand there nt knowing ahwaz to do, he didn't kiss you, left you in the icing room, is giving you one word answers, and closed the door to change all things he doesnât do. you sit on the bed and put your head in your hands that are resting on your knees, thereâs something definitely wrong, because why is this happening out of nowhere. Youâre biting your lips, stressed and lost at the same time, when he comes out heâs dressed in a hoodie and sweats with the hood up covering part of his face.
âYouâre leaving?â YOu ask him standing up, again he doesnât look at you, another unusual thing.
âYeah.â Is all you get.
âWhere?â
âOut.â
âOh.â It takes everything in you to get your eyes not to fill up with tears, but your vice is breathier and shakier. âWhen will you come back?â
âI donât know.â
âOkay, well have fun.â You manage to say before heâs out of the bedroom and out of the house. Why is he acting so⊠so asshole-y, nothing is making sense to you right now, thereâs no reason for him to be this way, no reason, and even if there was something that youâve done, youâre the kind of couple that are completely open with one another if something is bothering one of you then you talk it out, you don't just let it come between you because well most things are misunderstandings, and you need to be patient enough and understanding enough to talk it out. You debate calling someone to ask if something happened, but youâre also not the type to ask for outer help when it comes to your relationship, to outsiders they think that youâve never had a fight or disagreement that youâre the perfect couple. Youâre really private when it comes to the dynamic and the inner workings of your relationship.
Feeling frustrated and suddenly so alone, tears gather in your eyes and l eaves in waves, you sit in front of the bed leaning your back to it, and just let them flow. Rosco comes into the room and whines, he rubs up against you making you scratch and pet him the way he likes.
âDo you know what's wrong with daddy? hm? I didn't think so.â You mutter and smile as Rosco licks your hand. âI know, I know, I love you.â
You decide to stop crying and wait for Lewis to come back, because there must be a reason for him being like that and you just need to talk it out, you convince yourself that he went out for a breather and heâll come back soon, but as the minutes turn into hours and thereâs no sign of him coming back, you change into your pyjamas and head to bed. You donât know how long you laid there, tossing and turning, covering and uncovering yourself. youâre still awake when Lewis eventually comes back, sitting up when he gets into the bedroom, you know he expected you to be asleep from the look on his face. Your eyes are slightly red making him soften up a little, but heâs mad, heâs upset and feels betrayed and itâs eating him up.
âLew, can we please talk?â You ask hating how small you sound, this is not you at all. youâre always confident and sure of yourself, youâre not this small upset little girl. guess when it comes to the ones you love youâre everything youâre usually arenât.
âLater.â Again with the one word answers, he changed again in the closet closing the door behind him. You know that if he doesnât talk to you, you wonât be able to fall asleep, so you move to the end of the bed and wait for him until he comes back out.
âI think we should talk now.â You say standing up but don't move towards him, in fear or rejection.
âI donât think so.â He says shaking his head and shrugging, still not looking at you.
âWell, itâs not just up to you.â You say frustrated, youâre not backing down until he tells you what youâve done wrong, or what happened. âYouâre in a relationship okay, this works both ways, and you can't just ignore me for no reason because you want to.â
âNo reason?â He scoffs, sounding a bit amused before he changes his tone. âNo reason, there is a reason, okay.â This is the first time heâs shown you any emotion today and you canât be happy because it;s all anger coming out of his mouth at the moment and itâs completely unwarranted.
âThen what is the reason Lewis, because surprise! I donât read minds, and we havenât even seen each other that much these past few days, so please tell me what happened.â You plead with Lewis in desperation, another thing that doesnât ever happen, you never plead or beg unless playfully and in the bedroom.
âI know okay, I know, you donât have to act anymore, you can just tell me.â Lewis says leaving you even more confused.
âTell you what? you havenât even said anything, how am i supposed to know what to tell you when I donât know myself, look Lewis this isnât like you, we never solve things this way, I donât know what has gotten into you but just tell me.â You sounded tired at this point, no further well to keep fighting after being ignored and talked to in cryptic words.
âThe news about Ferrari-â Lewis starts before he stops himself.
âWhat about it? What does that have to do with-â It dawns on you what happened, the reason heâs refusing to talk to you, the reason heâs so cold and distant, the reason for the betrayed look on his face. You couldnât help yourself, you laugh, you laugh and you laugh.âFucking hell LEwis, I donât believe you right now, I truly donâtâ
âDo you deny it?â He asks and you laugh again, every time you laugh you know he gets annoyed but you donât have it in you to care, you see it now, and itâs all over his face, heâs feeling cheated, like he was stabbed in the back, just betrayed.
âWhy does it matter what I say? I mean you already decided that I did it, so why does it matter if I agree or not?â You ask him, shaking your head.
âJust answer me, did you tell the media?â He asked stepping half way closer and this time you step away, you turn and head into the closet. âWhere are you going? Iâm not done talking about this.â
âWell, I am.â You say closing the door in his face, quickly changing in a sweat set and taking a beak pack and put a few essentials in, when you open the closet door to head out you find Lewis waiting for you, but you ignore him and take your purse from the vanity.
âWasnât it you that said that we have to talk?â Lewis follows you and you sigh.
âYes, and it was also you who ignored me.â Lewis gets in your way blocking the front door. âLewis, love, look, if you doubt me then why are we even talking, I mean you believe the conspiracy theories that the fans spouted out as if we havenât been together for years, you clearly donât trust me to believe that I would do something like this, you have no trust in me.â
âSo youâre going to do what? Leave?â Lewis asks and you sidestep him.
âWhat else am I supposed to do, stay and beg you to believe me? Iâm not that kind of woman Lewis and if I was you wouldnât have been with me in the first place.â You say and open the door to leave. âOnce the season starts, Iâll come back to gather my things, same with Monaco, you sonâs have to see me anymore.â
You close the door in his face and leave, Lewis stands there in silence and for the first time since he was told by someone in his team that it was you that did it, heâs starting to doubt it, yes youâre one of the only people who knew about his move, but you werenât the only one. however his fans and his team, everyone is saying itâs you.
*
The season starts and youâre not in the paddock, something that is clearly noticed. In the last two years youâve been at every first and last race along with as many as you could, youâre one of the wags that are at most of the races. All this rules the rumours but theyâre just rumours as of now, thereâs no way for anyone to actually know, you still follow each other, but you havenât posted since you last saw Lewis. Youâve dropped off the face of the earth, gone MIA. LEwis sen you one text saying you can stay in his London house for as long as you needed, and that was it. He wasnât cruel, he begged you to move in with him and he wasnât about to leave you in the streets, but he knows you havenât been there, the security system hasnât been deactivated once.
Bahrain comes and goes and so does Jeddah and Lewis is missing you, he wonât admit it but he misses you like crazy, heâs so used to having you by his side. Youâre always there to hug him and take care of him after a race, whether youâre physically there or youâre on facetime with him. His bed is cold when he gets in, he finds himself reaching to your side of the bed to pull you close only to find you not there and every time it kills him a little. He still feels betrayed but he misses you, he loves you and it makes it so much harder for him.
Itâs been over a month and you still havenât confirmed your breakup and you havenât unfollowed each other, but the fans have taken your absence as a sight to confirm that it was you that leaked the information.
The truth always comes out, sometimes itâs instant, sometimes it takes a while, but eventually it does come out. So here you are sitting on the sofa at your parentsâs house, where you've been since you left Lewis in February. The headlines are bold and clear, someone from Mercedes heard Toto and George talking about the move and sold the news to the media for a bit of money. Suddenly youâre trending on twitter(itâs not X) and flooded with apologies and âI believed youâ and âwe were wrongâ, but it doesnât matter to you, you don't care. You turned off your phone and went to go find your mum to help her with dinner.
*
You donât turn on your phone the next day, or the day after or the day after that. Feeling happy with the detox youâre having. you do wonder whatâs going through LEwisâs mind thought, he now knows the truth as well, he knows that you had absolutely nothing to do with it and as much as you want it to fill you with joy that heâs proven wrong, it doesnât. Youâre still miserable and hurt, youâre so hurt by him believing that it physically hurts you, you lost a big piece of you that day, the piece that you had given Lewis, the part that he promised to take care of to protect to love and he broke that promise, you thought, you believed the heâs different but he didnât believer you in the end, he didnât even ask you.
Itâs a Wednesday night when someone rings the front door bell, youâre in your room and donât move knowing one of your parents will answer the door.
ây/n!â Your mum calls for you, you get up from your childhood bed and go to see what she wants, walking into the living room you stop in your tracks seeing Lewis standing in front of you. You look at your mum and dad, your dad had an annoyed look on his face, you havenât told them what had happened and they didnât ask, but it doesnât take a genius to guess with you turning up at their door one random day with a bag and no explanation.
âHi.â Lewis says and takes you in, dressed in one of your lounge sets with your hair in a messy bun, but looking oh so beautiful, he missed you so much, he missed everything about you. You stand there not knowing what to do, you havenât expected him to turn up, you havenât been to Monaco to get your things yet, but you cleared your stuff from his London house and into a storage until just a week ago.
âDo you want him to stay?â Your dad asks and you know that if you said no, he;d kick Lewis out, no questions asked.
âNo, no itâs okay.â You mutter and give your dad a small smile, your parents nod and leave the living room and go to the garden, you know for a fact itâs an effort for them not to eavesdrop on your conversation if theyâre in the house.
Once theyâre out you turn to look at Lewis and you see the bags under his eyes, you know he hasnât been sleeping well, he hasnât for a while, you could tell even from the TV. âSit down.â You gesture for him to sit on the sofa, he follows your instructions and you sit across from him, placing your hands between your legs.
âI uh, I tried calling you.â Lewis says sounding nervous, youâre both acting like you havenât been in a relationship for over two years and understandingly so, the last time you talked Lewis was hurt about the thought of you betraying him and now, heâs here because you never did but he betrayed you by doubting you and that hurt you and it missed him up. The guilt is eating him up, he came here knowing thereâs a big chance you wouldnât take him back and forgive him, but thereâs a bit of hope inside of him and heâs willing to take that risk and try, heâd get on his knees if he had to.
âI turned my phone off a few days ago, it was all a bit too much.â You say and bite at your lip, not looking at Lewis for too long, you havenât cried since you left him that day, but you feel like youâre about to cry now if you keep looking at him too long.
âIâm sorry about that.â Lewis says and you shrug.
âIt is what it is.â You mutter, giving him a tight lipped smile. âCanât do anything about it.â
âI couldâve but I didnât, y/n, love, Iâm so sorry, Iâm truly sorry, I wish I could take it all back.â Lewis says his voice heavy and full of regret. âThereâs no excuse for what Iâve done, and I shouldâve stood up for you online and for my team. I feel terrible and I donât blame you for being upset and mad at me.â
âIâm not mad.â You say tears leaving your eyes, you have to look away, your jaw clenching and unclenching, you sniff before you look back at him. âIâm hurt Lewis you doubting me is what hurts the most, I donât care that you didnât stand up for me online or any of that stuff, but you were so cold to me and you didnât even talk to me about it like you usually do, you ignored me and the accused me, you were so cruel.â
âI know, and itâs my biggest regret, I donât want to lose you, those weeks without you have been the worst and youâve been, you've been too kind to me, you can yell if you want, curse me, hit me, tell me how messed up I am, just-just give me a chance, give us a chance.â Lewis moves to the coffee table so heâs close to you and there's no escaping his eyes now, the ones you missed so much the last few weeks. âDon;t forgive me yet, wait until Iâve earned it, but donât shut me out, Iâd do anything you want, apologise a hundred times if you want just please.â
âI donât know Lewis, just as you felt betrayed when you thought I leaked it, I feel betrayed because of how you were.â You say pushing your tears away with the back of your hand, your lips red from all the biting you were doing to not sob. âI love you with all of my heart, but I still feel so hurt, it physically pains me to know you;d think of me like that, that Iâd be capable of betraying your trust in me.â
âIt was a moment of weakness, believe me darling, it would never ever happen again, never, I love you so much and being away from you is much worse than anything Iâve even been through.â Lewis says and takes your hand in both of his, theyâre warm and conferring, you take in the details of his tattoos, the ones you usually take when youâre lost in thought or board, the ones that hold you and pull you close, the ones that pull you for randomly dancing because he just felt like it, the ones you missed so much. You stay silent lost in thought, you know you still love Lewis and you want to get back with him, but something like this canât be forgotten easily. Lewis gets on his knees moving even closer to you. âIâm begging you my love please, just give us a chance, and if at any point you feel like you canât forgive me then thatâs it, Iâll let you go, no matter what I feel.â
You sigh, closing your eyes and resting your forehead on his, your hand cupping his cheek, feeling his beard, his skin, feeling him.
âOkay.â You breath, your voice is barely a whisper, Lewis thinks he may have misheard or imagined it. âOkay, letâs try to move on from this, but, but itâll take time for both of us to heal.â
âI know, and Iâll wait for you and help you heal, as much time as you need.â Lewis pulls away to kiss your forehead feeling like a kiss on the lips might be too much right now. âCan I hug you?â
âPlease.â Lewis stands up pulling you in for a much needed hug, you stand there for a long time, not saying anything just holding each other. Basking in the comfort of finlay being in each otherâs arms again, youâre home.
*
It takes a while for things to get back how it was, you still were offline, and there has been no sightings of you with Lewis anywhere, everyone assumed that your relationship has ended and that youâve both went your separate ways, but youâve been working on your relationship and on yourselves, taking all the time you needed to heal and come out stronger than you were before.
So it takes everyone by surprise when you turn up to the paddock in Monaco hand in hand with Lewis, the fans go crazy with the news, the true ones over the roof with happiness. You do have to admit that you missed the paddock and the excitement and the rush that comes with it. You and Lewis arenât big on PDA, but pictures of you two holding hands, hugging and sharing a couple kisses are all over the internet by the time the weekend comes to an end.

â đŠč ( you're in need of a break and to relax, so your friend makes you a well needed reservation at a massage parlor ) !
authors note. i suddenly remember when felix would go around and give people massages and i came up with this, so enjoy đ.
âJesus yn, what the hell happened in here?â your roommate entered your room. âitâs like a tornado hit your room; did this, left â spun the block and hit it again.â She said, stepping over the pile of clothes on the floor to your bed. âim sorry I didnât have enough time this week to clean, too busy at work.â
âlooks like you didnât have the time to do your hair and anything else, you look like a hobo.â You clicked away at your keyboard, rolling your eyes. âdid you come in here to insult me?â you questioned. âcause that couldâve been a text.â
âI came in here to tell you that you need to take a break, youâre working yourself to death.â She voiced her concerns. âim fine.â You said. âbaby no you not and thatâs okay, we can fix that cause you canât keep living like this.â She was right, â your job had recently had layoffs and you and the rest of the people that were spared were worked to the bone to replace the missing people; which meant more work and long hours, so you didnât have much time to do anything.
âliving like what?â you turned in your chair. âbabe when was the last time you had any me time?â you shrugged. âmaybe about a month ago, I think.â She sighed. âexactly you need to relax, thatâs why as your roommate and the bestest friend in the world, I took the liberty of scheduling us both for a massage at my favorite masseuse parlor this weekend.â
âI donât have time this weekend thereâs aâ nope I donât want to hear it.â She covered her ears. âyouâre gonna put the laptop down this weekend and go out and have some relaxation time.â She said. âeven if I have to drag you out myself.â
You sighed, knowing your friends wouldnât back down unless you agreed. âfine weâll go.â She clapped, standing up. âgreat!â she chipped. âits gonna be great, I swear youâll feel like a new woman after this.â She said hugging you; before making her way to the door, looking around the room once more. âand maybe then youâll come to your senses and clean this pigsty.â She scrunched her nose up in disgust before leaving out.
The next few days were busy and finally Friday rolled around and the weekend was finally here. That evening you got home and your friend was already going at your room claiming âwe need to get this together before we become new women.â You sighed, dropping your bag; changing your clothes before you also jumped in and you tackled the crazy that was your room; you both finished; covered in sweat from the deep clean. âgirl you better be paying me fore that.â Your friend huffed. âI worked like a damn dog.â
âthank you.â You said, ready to take a shower and hop into bed. âno problems girl.â Your friend hopped up. ânow get some sleep cause our girls day starts at 10:30 am sharp.â She skipped out her room. âand make sure to tidy up down there.â She pointed to your below area. âwhy do I need to do that?â you crossed your legs. âjust listen to me, and do it goodnight.â
âis it noticeable.â You said looking down; had it been a long time? âno.â you scoffed getting your pajamas ready. âshes crazy.â You said, thinking for a minute. âwell it couldnât hurt anyone.â You grabbed a new razor from your nightstand before making your way into the bathroom.
The next day you a woken feeling a little bit more refreshed than usual; sleeping in a little later than normal and in a clean room really was nice. You woke up, getting ready for the day with your roommate.
You spent the whole morning and early afternoon out with your roommate; getting your hair and nails done, shopping for new clothes and other things for the apartment. It was almost time for you both to head over to the massage place; so you stopped for lunch then headed right over.
âweâre here.â She pulled into the parking lot. âit even looks fancy outside.â You stepped out of the car. âI booked our appointments for a least busy time so it should be empty so we wonât have to wait long.â You both walked into the place, standing at the front desk. âhello?â you friend tapped the bells and a boy came scurrying out.
âhello, welcome to our day spa, do you both have a appointment?â he said. âyes we do its under (f/l/n).â he typed down on the computer, your friend turned to you mouthing âheâs cuteâ to which you shook your head at her antics.
âoh here it is.â He laughed after struggling to find it. âwhich one of you is scheduled for felix and which one of you is scheduled for changbin?â you turned to your friend. âdoes it matter?â she nodded. âchangbin is much muscular and he hits all the right places â you furrowed your eye brows. âyou seem to know a lot about this place.â
âif I may?â the man in front of you said. âfelix is very good too, heâs the most popular here, everyone always asks for him.â You nod, well if heâs good thatâs all that matters, anyway a massage is a massage. âokay.â
He guided you both to two different rooms. âyou can go in there and you there, they both should be here soon so you can get undressed and wait.â He walked away. âundressed?â you turned to your friend. âyeah you have to fully be undressed.â She said. âis that why you told me to shave?â she winked, walking into her room shutting the door. âcrazy.â You walked into your room closing the door.
You stripped down to your underwear, taking the towel, wrapping it around your waist, pulling your panties down your leg, sitting them down on your pile of clothes â just as the door opened, making you jump, covering your chest. âoh im sorry I thought youâd be laying down already.â He said. âits okay.â You said. âI was just finishing up.â
âwell you can lay down now and we can start.â He dimmed the lights. âI can light candles if you want.â You smiled, nodding. âthank you.â You laid down, your boobs hitting the cold leather, making you hiss at the sensation. âyou okay?â felix finished lightning the last candle. ây-yes im fine.â You felt your face heat up that he heard that noise. âokay we can get started now.â
You rested your head on your arms; you felt a warm liquid hit your back, making you flinch. âis it too hot?â you shook your head. âjust shocked me a little.â You heard him chuckle. âdonât be scared, its just eucalyptus and peppermint oil.â He explained, you felt him rubbing it along your back, you sighed at his touch. âit helps with inflammation and pain.â
The boy in the front was right; he was a godsend with his hands, itâs like he knew you like the back of his hand, hitting all the right places, your body slowly began to relax. âyou seem so tense, do you work a lot?â he asked. You hummed. âits not good to work like that, too much stress can cause a lot of knots and that causes pain.â He pressed down on one spot that made your eyes shoot open; a low whimper coming out of your mouth.
âoh , im sorry.â You cursed at yourself, embarrassed at how it just slipped out. âthatâs good, it means Iâm doing a good job.â He said. âdonât be embarrassed.â He said in a low soft tone, his deep voice sending a wave of arousal in your gut. âlet out all the noises you want.â
His hands moved to your side, rubbing them gently; making his way up to the side of your boobs. âis this okay?â you hummed, pretty sure at this point youâd let him do whatever he wanted as long as he kept talking to you like that.
His hands rubbed the sides of your bust gently, you bit your lip to contain any noises that tried to force their way out. âyou donât have to hide them.â He said. âI want to hear them.â You couldnât for the life of you wrap your head around why this stranger has such an effect on you; but you didnât stop the next noise that came out of your mouth. âfu-fuck.â
He worked down your back, right above your ass, where the towel covered, pressing down. âits seems really tense here.â He pressed down harder, you whimpered. He worked down to your legs, pushing the towel to sit right above your thighs. He poured some more warm oil on your legs, rubbing your calves, making his way up to your thighs â dangerously close to your bare bottom.
Felix never wouldâve done this with another client; he wouldâve stopped right at your back â but he couldnât help it, you were making so much noise and he had to admit; it was turning him on, a lot â and he wanted to see how far he could go.
His hands were entering dangerous territory as he rubbed the in of your thighs, you could feel the heat of his fingers on your cunt, he could easily touch it if he wanted â and you really wanted him to.
Itâs like he read your mind cause his next words made your heart race. âif you want me to touch you, you have to say something.â He said. âI wont do anything you donât want me to.â He said. âi-I want you to.â You said breathlessly. âthen turn around.â
You turned on your back, his hands work all the back up to your boobs, gently cupping them; you let out a soft moan. âlet me hear you.â He pinched your bud, your back arched up; giving him the leeway to undo the towel, your bare cunt for him to see â thank god you shaved. âso pretty.â His hands travel down to your pussy, lightly touching it. âpl-please.â
âyou want me to touch you?â you nodding. âye-yes.â He smiled, his hand spreading your legs; fingers grazing your clit. âgood you used your words.â He rubbed your clit, spreading your folds. âsuch a pretty cunt.â He whispered. âso soft.â He pushed a finger inside of you. âso wet.â He moved his fingers in and out of you, curling the to hit that gummy spot inside of you. âyou gonna cum, I can feel you clenching.â He used the pad of his thumb to rub your clit. âyou can cum.â
And just like that you were on his finger, moaning out loud. âso loud.â he sat on the massage table in front of your breathless naked body. âI want to hear more.â He kissed your neck, climbing on top of your body to leave little kisses down the valley of your breath, taking a nipple into his mouth as he sat on his knees in between your legs, his hard cock evident as he pressed it against your cunt.
âsh-shit.â You moaned as he grinding his hips against you, sucking on your nipples. âpl-please fuck me.â That was all he needed, before he undid his pants freeing his hard cock. âyou sure you want to do this?â he said. âim a stranger and â I want this, please.â You needed this, you needed him to fuck you. âplease fuck me.â
He pressed his tip against your cunt, pushing himself inside of you. âoh fuck youâre so tight.â He slowly worked himself in and out of you. âyou need to relax, youâre so tense I can barely -fuck- I can barely move inside of you.â You whined as he used the pad of his thumb to rub your bud. âthatâs it.â He sighed. âopen up for me.â
He moved his hips fluidity, his cock hitting all the spots your vibrator just didnât. âfe-felix.â His name flowing right out of your mouth as he worked his way in and out of you. âfe-feels so good.â He moved faster, you felt your orgasm approaching. âim gonna cum.â Your voice was shaky as your clenched tightly around him.
âfuck me too.â He grunted, he moving faster. âfelix im cumming.â You gasped, the knot in your stomach snapping as you came. âshit youâre too tight.â He moaned, his orgasm approaching quickly. âshit.â He pulled out as fast as he could, cumming all over your cunt. âfuck.â
âone more.â He said, his face near your cunt. âI want to give you one more.â He licked your folds, the taste of your cunt and his cum on his tongue was dizzying. âfu-fuck.â You were feeling overstimulated at the point, but you still felt your third orgasm approaching fast. âoh fuck.â You gasped. âfuck im gonna cum!â thinking he was gonna move away, but he didnât he stayed there drinking up all you have to offer. âfe-felix.â You had to push his head away to keep him from going on.
He pulled away, wiping his mouth; your body was fully relaxed by now; the service time was probably long over. âshit my boss is gonna kill me.â He quickly redressed himself, helping you get dressed. âthat sounded harsh, I really liked it.â He said, you laughed, pulling your shirt down. âI understand, my friend has probably called me a thousand times.â You pulled out your phone, and believe it or not there were no phone calls from her, but two text messages.
(friends name)đ©·| I told you youâd like himâŠ
(friends name)đ©·| have fun girl, Iâll wait in the carđ
Your face burned with embarrassment. âI would like to see you again.â He said. âme-me?â he nodded. âyes, if thatâs okay.â You nodded. âI would love to see you again.â He smiled, as you gave him your number. âlets see each other soon.â He nodded. âis the weekend coming up okay?â he wanted to see you as soon as he could â he needed to. âWe can get dinner and maybe see a movie.â He moved closer to you, caging you against the bed a smirk on his face.
âand I can give you a even better happy ending than today, only if youâre good though.â

Best Friend (E.M.)
WARNING: angst with a happy ending, friends to lovers, sexy times, disgusting fluff, Eddie being too sweet and precious for this world.
NOTES: I'm in a mood. I blame this time of year. Also, the end quote is inspired by the Simpsons. Points if you know the episode it's from.
DIVIDER BY @firefly-graphics
You're at a house party, and Eddie watches you like a hawk across the kitchen.
You're here alone; your boyfriend of two years is nowhere to be seen. You're talking with Robin and a group of girls, and even though you're smiling, Eddie can tell you're faking it. You've been faking it for a week now.
Your friends don't know, but Eddie knows. Your smile hasn't reached your eyes in a week. A trivial thing that most people would miss. But Eddie has been in love with you since you were 15; when you love someone that long, you pick up on things like that.
When you excuse yourself from the group, Eddie follows as you head out into Harrington's backyard. He sees how your shoulders sag once you think no one is around. The way you sit like the world's weight is on your shoulders as you sit in a lounger by the pool.
"What do you want, Eddie?"
Eddie smiles to himself as he takes a seat next to you.
"Should ask you that; you've been off all week."
"What do you know?"
Eddie isn't phased by your snippy remark; it's more bark than bite. He gives you a "Are you serious" look as he scoots a bit closer to you, close enough that the denim of his jeans touches your bare leg.
"You don't have to tell me. But it might make you feel better if you didn't keep it in."
Eddie watches you from his periphery as your body tenses before you let out a defeated sigh.
"He cheated on me."
The words make Eddie want to hunt your man down and pummel him until he can't feel his hands. The last time he wanted to inflict that kind of violence was the last time he saw his old man.
"He's been seeing her for almost six months, and then he said he didn't love me anymore."
"He's a fucking idiot."
"You have to say that you're my best friend."
"When have I EVER said anything that I didn't want to?"
He can see the hint of a smile on your lips as you discreetly try to wipe at your waterline.
"He's an idiot. He didn't deserve you; he never did."
"Keep talking like that, and I might think you were jealous."
Eddie's body stills, his heart dropping into his ass at your words. He had spent years lying. First, to himself over his real feelings and then to you as he tried to hide those feelings as he watched you repeatedly date the wrong guy over and over.
"Eddie."
He doesn't turn to face you when you call his name. Turning will begin a conversation he doesn't know if he's ready to have. The delicate dance he's held you in will disappear, and the possibility that he will end up alone is more than he can bear.
"How long?"
Eddie turns then, brows furrowed in question.
"How long?"
"About 10 minutes after our first conversation in freshman English."
He lets out a heavy sigh, face looking straight ahead as he still refuses to look at you.
"Why didn't you say something? You had so much time?"
"You seemed happy. That's all I ever wanted. It's all I'll ever want."
He turns his head when your hand touches his chin, letting you pull him to meet your eyes. He watches as you study him like you're seeing him for the first time.
"Tell me what you're thinking, Y/N."
"Make me forget."
Eddie gasps softly at your request.
"You don't mean that."
"You think you're the only one hiding their real feelings?"
You're both staring at each other now. Your waterline is still teary, but Eddie is pretty sure this has nothing to do with your now ex. He reaches for your hand, entwining your fingers and feeling elated when you squeeze.
"If we do this, it's going to change everything. There'll be no going back."
"I hope not."
Eddie can't help but chuckle when he sees your smile finally reach your eyes.
"I'm serious; this could ruin everything."
"Oh, Eddie,"
Eddie's breath catches when you lean in closer, your lips right against the shell of his ear.
"It could also be amazing."
Eddie lets out a shaky breath before standing. He stretches out a hand and helps you out of the lounger before he leads you out of the party through the front door. He opens the door of his van for you, leaning over you to buckle you in with a cheeky grin. Then he's behind the wheel, revving the engine as he drives to your apartment without another word.
The sun is barely coming in through your curtains when you wake. Stretching your limbs like a cat, you smile at the soreness in your thighs and between your legs. You reach an arm out and sit up when you feel empty sheets next to you.
The night comes crashing back in stages. The fumbled kisses as he crowded you into your apartment. The look in his eyes as his plush lips worshipped your pussy until you had to drag him up by his hair. The way he whimpered when he was finally buried balls deep inside you. How you had both finally collapsed after what felt like hours. Eddie sending you off to sleep with a flurry of soft declarations of his love.
And now, he wasn't here.
You feel the panic bubble when you hear footsteps coming down the hall. The smell hits you next: freshly brewed coffee. Then Eddie is softly pushing into the room, naked and holding two hot cups of coffee.
"Morning, Sweetheart. Hope I didn't wake you."
You're incapable of speaking, and Eddie stops when he sees you. He puts the mugs down and quickly climbs into bed next to you.
"What's wrong? I didn't hurt you, did I?"
You shake your head as you let him pull you close.
"You weren't here, I thought. Never mind, it's stupid."
"Don't say that. Just wanted to make my girl some coffee. I know how grumpy she gets without her caffeine fix."
"Asshole."
Eddie smiles at the remark, all bark and no bite. He hands you your mug, watching you take a small sip as he rests beside you.
"So,"
Eddie freezes at your tone. He knows that tone. It's usually the harbinger of bad news. He steels himself, waiting for you to tell him that last night was a mistake and that he needs to be on his way.
"I'm your girl now, huh?"
Eddie can't hide his smile. It stretches ear to ear as he snuggles in closer to you. His head rests on your shoulder, lips pressing to your skin as he breathes you in.
"I think you've always been my girl."
"Well, I'm glad we're on the same page now."
"Yeah, but now I have this new problem."
Eddie's smile doesn't falter as he sits up. He takes your mug and places it on your nightstand. Before you can speak, he's laying you back down on the mattress, his body moving over yours like a panther.
"I meant what I said in the van last night. What did I say was gonna happen once I stopped the van?"
You sigh as he rests his weight on you. Eddie takes your hands, bringing them above your head. He entwines your fingers, both of you giving reassuring squeezes that this is what you both want.
"You said that you were gonna hug me."
A kiss to your neck.
"You were gonna kiss me."
A brush of his lips against yours.
"And?"
You feel his cock warm and heavy against your pussy.
"You were never gonna let me go."
He kisses you as he enters you, and he has you moaning as the sun rises in the East.

Ning Yizhuo x gn!reader
No warnings
Gender: Cute, i promise this will be romantic
It's boring and tiring having to spend so much time sitting in a wooden chair with your hands busy writing essays and answers. The plan wasn't to spend all Sunday listening for exams and doing work you didn't even know existedIt's hard for anyone to get their mind so full so quickly. Was college slowly killing you like psychological torture â or is it just you being dramatic and unformed.
Your joint hurt enough but you refused to stop to get it over with as quickly as possible, there was still time to enjoy your Sunday since it was still afternoon "Come on, just a few more lines" you mutter, cheering to yourself since your roommate wasn't here.
You were almost there, just a few more words and you would be free if it weren't for the doorbell ringing quickly as if a child was outside. Your head hurts more with the continuous noise of the doorbell forcing your body to get up and go to the door. Before opening the door you looked through the peephole, you didn't want to be disturbed by annoying children, but you ended up burning your tongue when you saw Ningning there.
She's been your best friend since you started college, you luckily met her on the first day and weren't left alone like some new students so she was kind of a savior for you. She was one of the few people who actually helped new students who barely knew how to find a room. So you opened the door for her "What are you doing here?"
Your voice scared her or maybe it was how quickly you opened the door, you cursed yourself for sounding like a maniac as you looked at the girl "Hello to you too Y/n" You sigh and roll your eyes "Good afternoon Ning Yizhuo, what brings you here?" This got a laugh from the shorter one and a smile appeared on her face "You don't have to be like that either."
"So just say what you need, I was finishing some homework" Ningning's face twitches at the thought of keeping busy during the weekend "Doing homework? What are you? A nerd?" "Stop it, nerds aren't that bad. But no, I'm not a nerd, I just forgot that I have things to do" you defended yourself, or tried.
"Whatever, you can finish this later, right?" She looked at you, waiting for a positive answer. You held the back of your head, looked around, all to avoid the Chinese woman's gaze. "Right?" she repeated "I don't know..." you were embarrassed. It was obvious that Ning wanted to ask you out or something and it was also obvious that you really wanted to spend time with her, but...
Her arms were crossed while her eyes remained on your face as if you had done the worst thing in the world "Come out of your cocoon for a bit and let's go, we won't be long" Her fingers grabbed your arm and pulled you forward towards her, her puppy ââeyes and soft touch were involved in the cute manipulation she proposed "keep me company, Y/n, please" she shook you a little knowing you had no choice.
"Okay..."
-
"Damn, don't you think we've already spent too much time walking?" Your eyes were watching the excited girl as if she were a little child leaving home for the first memorable time "It hasn't even been 10 minutes." Maybe you were being too hot-headed or too anti-social.
You didn't know where you were, in fact you didn't know which park Ningning decided to take you to this time. It's a really beautiful place, the grass is green like in the movies, flowers are spread out perfectly, not to mention the birds and people walking their pets. It's a charming place like Ningning.
It's not as bad as you thought, but as you're hot-headed, you were always complaining about something and she didn't even care about you that much. Ning was focused on taking photos of everything as if it was her first time at the park, she really liked photos.
"Look what a cute cat!" There was a cat with white and slightly brown fur on the edge of a fountain that was not in use, only plants were growing around it. You walked slowly towards her and with your hands in your pockets, you watched her eyes shine as the feline accepted the caress she offered.
Silently, you took the camera away from Ning and stood back to take a photo of the two's cute interaction. "What are you doing?" "Calm down, stay still".
A little clicking noise was made when the photo came out and was recorded in the camera's memory. When you went to see the photo she took, you realized that it was full of photos of you on the camera: you looking at the flowers, you complaining in front of a small forest, you laughing at something you saw and it doesn't end.
You remained silent analyzing each photo and each opportunity she had to take photos of you, you were so foolish to not notice and complain the whole time. "Did you take pictures of me?" Her eyes went to the girl playing with the cat and a blush crept up both of her cheeks as she smiled and came to you "I couldn't help it, you looked good everywhere".
Your smile grew a little wider and you handed the camera to her before she saw how you looked "Stop it, let's keep moving." Your mind was going a million an hour, it was so silly to look like that with photos and a simple comment...but she was the one talking.
"Hey come back here! Didn't you say you were tired?" Your safe passage ahead was blocked by the smiling girl "I was just complaining, I didn't tell the truth" your head turned to the opposite side, pretending to look at the large lake to your right, all to avoid meeting the eyes of the person you are in love with.
"S/n, đ§đ°đ€đ¶đŽ đ°đŻ đźđŠ"
The soft voice drowned out all surrounding sounds, drawing your attention only to her. You didn't fight it much, there was no way, she has total control over your mind and the things you do, it's because of her that you're here and not finishing a stupid physics homework.
Her eyes were hypnotic, something changed, maybe the lighting changed the way her eyes glowed when they looked into yours. Butterflies invaded your stomach and your mind was filled with only Ning Yizhuo and nothing else.
"Much better" Her smile made your heart race making you think you were having a heart attack with her beauty. She noticed the way you were quiet and how your eyes analyzed her face as if you were memorizing every detail. I can't deny that she found it intriguing and cute your arms crossed and the curious pout that formed on your lips. You've always caught her attention and she has a chance, but it wouldn't be now that I would use "Come, I want to see the lake closer".
-
The air was calmer now. The children who were previously running here and there were leaving with their parents and the dogs that were playing were lying on the grass or sitting like you and NingNing. It's a comfortable moment between you because the silence was more than enough for you to be calm.
Ning silently took photos of the ducks that were in the lake and also the couple of dogs that were lying together on the grass or even an old couple walking by the lake. All of this caught her attention.
"Do you think you'll be like them one day?" she murmured softly next to you making you stop looking at the ducks and instead look at where she was looking "like how?" "Like them" she discreetly points to the two old men laughing and walking slowly in their time. Her question was difficult, getting old you definitely will, but having someone by your side will be difficult "I don't know. Do you think so?" "I don't know either, but I would like to"
Everyone would like.
The day was starting to go away, the sun was slowly falling and the hour passed with you still sitting together. Her hand found hers without you even noticing along with the way she looked at you, with passion. "Would you like to be like this with someone?" you ask, too curious and silly to notice Ning.
She laughed at you, laughed at how you didn't even notice the love she felt "Yes." Ningning is not afraid to show her feelings to someone, she has always been completely open with everything she says and you know. "Who?"
Her eyes meet yours and drop to your lips a few times silently indicating what she wanted to do and what she was afraid to do. You blinked, not understanding what was happening before your eyes and she obviously saw how stupid you were being, nothing was out of the ordinary.
"You're so stupid, Y/n" you were confused but everything ended up becoming clear too quickly. Her lips crashed against yours showing all the way to satisfaction, you realized that kissing was much more than saying what you really feel and that was exactly what she wanted. She just wanted a kiss, just a kiss and the opportunity.
The girl's lips were like velvet and had an incredible strawberry taste because of the lip gloss or were they the strawberries you bought her on the way to the park. You didn't mind that since Ning Yizhuo's lips were in a passionate and mostly sweet dance. She refused to move away even though she needed some air in her lungs.
You patted her arm, forcing them to move away for some air. From her eyes it could be seen that she has no regrets, she wanted to do this much more than you. She brought you here for this, she couldn't bear to come to this park to take photos anymore so the photos were all yours, she was focusing on you all day and you just wanted to receive it now.
"Do you understand now?" Her lips held a smile waiting for your answer. It took you so long to realize that love surrounded both of your minds. "Yes, I think so.."
"Do you think so?" She tilted her head and saw confusion in you "Yes...I'm sure about that..." Your voice dropped as you spoke, making her laugh sweetly "Are you sure?"
"Another kiss would be enough to make me think a little more"

Dec 2023 â Spain
The drive back to Barcelona felt longer than usual for Ona.
Though her Christmas with her family had been full of warmth and love; sheâd missed them, of course, and the joy of being home had its own kind of magic. But, this year something had been different. Her heart and her thoughts had been elsewhere the entire time.
They had been with Lucy.
She had imagined what Lucyâs smile looked like on Christmas morning, wondered what it wouldâve been like to share Christmas eve with her, what they would do with presents, if they would do them. They had texted each other, sure, but it wasnât the same. The ache of being apart had settled deep, a constant reminder that this was the person she wanted to share everything with.
So when she finally returned to Barcelona, it was like the world clicked back into place.
Lucy was waiting for her, standing by her apartment with Narla, a wide smile lighting up her face the moment she spotted Ona with her little travel bag.
For Ona it felt like coming home in every possible sense.
The days after had blurred together in a beautiful dream. The two of them had fallen into a rhythm that felt perfect. They woke up together, walked the dogs, picked up pastries from the little bakery they loved, eating them outside on a bench or stone ridge, it was perfect.
But even mundane things like tidying up their apartments or running errands, felt easy, fun even, because they were doing it together.
But beyond the day-to-day bliss, there was also an not-so-unspoken heat between them. They spent time of time⊠uhm.. between the sheets, or.. in the shower, or.. on the couch.. or wherever else the moment led them. Every second together felt charged, full of a amount of love that they couldnât seem to contain. It was like the outside world had stopped existing, leaving only the two of them in this perfect, intimate bubble.
..
Today was different, though.
It was December 31st. The last day of the year. Yesterday they had discussed some plans to end this year and start 2024 perfectly.
Ona stirred first, blinking as the soft morning light filtered through the curtains in Lucyâs bedroom. The warmth of Lucyâs arm draped over her waist made her smile as she carefully shifted to face her.
Lucy was still sound asleep, laying on her side, her mouth slightly parted, looking perfectly at peace. Ona couldnât help but feel a wave of affection wash over her, watching the rise and fall of Lucyâs chest.
She gently brushed a few strands of hair from Lucyâs face, letting her fingertips graze her cheek. Lucy stirred slightly but didnât wake. Ona smiled to herself, savoring the moment.
For a minute, it was as if time had slowed, all that mattered was Lucy. The woman she loved. The more she looked at this beautiful face, the more she was sure she wanted to spend the rest of her life waking up with this view.
As Onaâs mind drifted, thinking about how tonight would be the last night of the year and how theyâd spend it together, Lucyâs arm tightened around her, pulling her in. Lucy blinked sleepily, a lazy grin tugging at her lips as she spotted Ona gazing at her.
âMmm⊠morning,â Lucy mumbled, her voice husky with sleep. She rolled on top of Ona, burying her face in Onaâs neck. âDo we have to get up?â
âYes, we do.ââ Ona chuckled softly, running her fingers through Lucyâs hair. ââWeâve made plans, remember? We have to get things ready for tonight.â
Lucy let out a soft groan, refusing to let go just yet. âWe could just stay in bed all day,â she murmured, placing a gentle kiss on Onaâs collarbone. âCelebrate it our own way.â She said teasingly, rolling her hips against Ona playfully.
Ona rolled her eyes, a heavy chuckle sounding in her throat as she pressed a kiss to Lucyâs forehead. âWe canât. The dogs are going to revolt if we donât walk them soon. Besides, weâve got to go to the shop still, cook, clean up, eat, celebrate.â Ona trailed her fingers down Lucyâs back, ââbut.. if you still have energy left after all of that...ââ She said suggestively, squeezing Lucyâs ass.
Lucy groaned again but sat up, reluctantly letting go of Ona. âFine,â she sighed dramatically, âbut only because I love you.â
Ona grinned. âI like that answer.â
Lucy chuckled, still sitting on top of Ona. Her eyes roamed Onaâs face, as if she had something to say.
âWhat?,â Ona asked with a smile.
Lucy reached down, brushing a hand through Onaâs hair. âI love youâŠâ she paused, a small smile tugging at her lips, âand I have something for you.â
Ona blinked, her curiosity piqued. âOh?â
Lucy shifted, climbing of her girlfriend, reaching over to the nightstand and pulling out a small, neatly wrapped box. âI was going to give it to you for Christmas, but, well⊠we both had to be with our families. So, I saved it for the first next special day.â
Ona propped herself up on one elbow, looking at Lucy with a mixture of surprise and affection. âYou didnât have to get me anything.â
âI wanted to,â Lucy replied softly, handing her the gift with a warm smile. ââConsider it a new years gift.ââ
Ona took the box, her fingers lightly tracing the edges of the wrapping before carefully untying the ribbon. She lifted the lid and her breath caught slightly as she revealed a beautiful watch, sleek and elegant, with a subtle touch of gold around the edges.
âLuceâŠâ Ona whispered, her eyes sparkling as she admired the gift. âWow, I- ..thank you, itâs beautiful.â
Lucy smiled, propping herself up on her elbow next to Ona to be closer. âI saw it and thought of you. I wanted to give you something that you could wear. A little reminder of me, even when weâre apart.â
Onaâs eyes softened, she looked at the watch before looking back at Lucy. âI love it. I love you.â
Lucy smiled at her girlfriends reaction, she reached out, running her hand gently along Onaâs arm. âHere, let me help you put it on.â
Ona held out her wrist, her heart fluttering as Lucyâs fingers brushed lightly against her skin, fastening the watch with gentle precision. The simple act, Lucyâs soft touch and the quiet intimacy of the moment as they were silent until the strap was secured. It made Ona feel like everything in the world was exactly where it should be.
"But... I didnât get you anything," Ona confessed softly, her voice tinged with guilt.
Lucy smiled, her hand sliding from Onaâs wrist to her cheek, caressing it gently. "You didnât have to. We never talked about gifts, I just wanted to. Besides, youâre the best present I could ask for."
Onaâs heart melted at Lucyâs words. She leaned in, closing the distance between them until their lips met in a slow, tender kiss. Lucyâs sweetness overwhelmed her. Ever since that day of confessions, they had shared everything, no more hiding their feelings. Ona had realized just how much Lucy had been holding back and how deeply she felt for her. While they both were in love, Ona wondered if Lucyâs feelings were even stronger, sometimes almost overpowering in their intensity, like how Lucy could look at her so adoring it made her feel like she was the most precious gem stone or something. Their kiss lingered, deepening as they got lost in the warmth and affection they had for one another.
"I love you," Ona whispered, her forehead resting gently against Lucyâs as they broke the kiss, their breaths mingling.
"Mhm, I love you too," Lucy murmured, her thumb softly stroking Onaâs cheek. "Iâm so happy you're my girlfriend now."
"Mmm, I am yours," Ona replied, smiling as she gently pushed Lucy onto her back, settling on top of her. "And you are mine."
Lucy groaned as Ona began to kiss her neck. "Youâre definitely not acting like you want us to get out of bed."
ââA few minutes more wont hurt.ââ Ona said, already breathing heavy as she trailed down Lucyâs neck, ââjust donât wake the dogs.ââ
Lucy laughed, ââNo, lets go do the things you wanted to do, hmm, go to the shop.ââ She started teasingly, ââcook, clean, celebrate and if you still have energy after alllll of that.ââ She squeezed Onaâs ass with both hands.
Ona propped herself up, looking at Lucy indignantly with an open mouth. ââOh, youâre bad.ââ
Lucy smirked, âânow you know how it feels.ââ She whispered before disappearing out of the bed.
..
Their morning routine was as effortless at it was the couple of days before. They got dressed and made the dogs ready for their morning walk.
The air outside was crisp and cool, the faint winter sun casting a glow over the city as they strolled along the quiet streets. During their walk they were talking about what food they wanted to make for the evening.
By the time they got back to Lucyâs apartment, they were ready to dive into everything. Ona took her coat and shoes off, and they let the dogs settle in their favorite spots while Lucy grabbed her iPad to help make a shopping list.
Lucy sat at the kitchen table, the iPad and a piece of paper in front of her. ââOh babe can you-
ââGrab a pen?ââ Ona chuckled, taking place on Lucyâs lap, with a pen in hand. ââOfcourse.ââ
Lucy smiled, wanting to take it from Ona. ââThank y-
ââNuh-uh,ââ Ona shook her head, ââthe cost is a kiss.ââ
ââOh really?ââ Lucy chuckled, ââThatâs a bargain, Iâll take a hundred then.ââ
..
After a â not-so-short â distraction they refocused.
Together they scrolled through recipes and ideas.
âOhhh, something like this charcuterie board?â Lucy asked, her finger hovering over a mouth-watering image of cheeses, olives, and slices of different sausages.
âYes,â Ona nodded. âThat one looks very good, it has some sweet things too.â She grabbed Lucyâs arm, in a moment of eureka ââohhh, can we go by the chocolate shop.ââ She looked at Lucy with puppy eyes, ââget those truffle chocolates.ââ
Lucy chuckled. âOfcourse,ââ Leaning in to kiss her, ââanything my baby wants.â She murmured against Onaâs lips.
They continued planning out their list, sorting their groceries in order of the stores they were visiting. Every now and then, Lucy would kiss Onaâs temple or playfully bump her shoulder, drawing out a laugh from Ona. She was completely hooked. She was just so perfect.
âYouâre distracting me,â Ona whined playfully, her finger hovering over the screen as Lucy kissed her cheek again.
âI canât help it,â Lucy grinned. âYouâre too cute when youâre in this.. focused mode.ââ
With the shopping list finally complete, they bundled up again and headed out to the different stores.
The shopping street was bustling, full of other last-minute people preparing for their own New Yearâs Eve celebrations, but Lucy and Ona didnât even notice as they moved easily through the shops.
âShould we get a bottle of champagne?â Lucy asked, pointing at the liquor store.
Ona gave her a playful look. âI thought we said we werenât going overboard.â
Lucy grinned and pulled Ona in the storeâs direction anyways. âItâs New Yearâs, we can have a little toast on us.â
Ona shook her head, laughing. âAlright.â
As they made their way through the streets and the stores, they found themselves stealing little moments. Some small kisses here and there, quiet whispers and at all times they would be connected, either interlinking their pinkies or Lucy guiding her with a hand on the small of her back, they couldnât go a second without. It felt like they were in their own world, moving in sync.
..
When they got back to Lucyâs place, the dogs greeted them with excited barks, tails wagging as they darted around the apartment.
Laughing, Lucy set the grocery bags down and gave Narla a quick scratch behind the ears while Ona bent down to ruffle Cocoâs fur.
After unpacking the groceries and washing their hands they dove into prepping the food. Lucy stood at the counter chopping vegetables, while Ona made slices of the cheeses and fuets.
They danced around each other effortlessly, moving in perfect sync, stealing quick glances and smiles between tasks. Every now and then, one of them would sneak a bite of food into the otherâs mouth, giggling as they fed each other little samples of what was to come.
âYou know,â Lucy said, looking around the kitchen as Ona finished setting up the charcuterie board, âthis place is kind of a mess.â They had prepared an home-made soup, dips and spreads, sliced a baguette and their master project was the charcuterie board.
Ona raised an eyebrow and looked around as well. Not only the kitchen was a mess but the apartment, while cozy, was still marked by the remnants of Lucyâs family visit. It wasnât a chaotic mess, but it definitely didnât scream âromantic night in.â
âYouâre not wrong,â Ona laughed softly, finishing up the last touches of a spread and putting it in the fridge. âWe could move this party to my place if we want a proper clean slate.â
Lucy wiped her hands on a towel, smiling as she glanced over at Ona. âExactly what I was thinking. Weâll finish here, pack everything up, and head over then. Have our romantic night at your place.â
Ona grinned, stepping closer until she had Lucy pinned between herself and the counter. âRomantic night, hmm?â
Lucyâs breath caught slightly, her smile widening. She placed her hands on Onaâs hips, pulling her closer until their bodies were pressed together. âOh yeah,â Lucy said, her voice low and playful, âIâve got plans.â
Before Lucy could lean in to kiss her, Ona pulled back just enough to tease, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. âAny specific plans youâd like to share?â
Grinning, Lucy cupped the back of Onaâs neck, her thumb brushing lightly over her skin. âLetâs just say you wonât be bored.â Her voice dropped to a soft whisper.
Ona chuckled, her lips brushing against Lucyâs, but she didnât close the distance just yet. âOkay.. Iâm curious,â she murmured, before finally leaning in to kiss Lucy.
..
They worked together to finish preparing the food, arranging everything carefully in containers so they could transport it. As they packed the charcuterie board and desserts into bags, Lucy grabbed a backpack and went to the bedroom to pack some nice clothes.
âIâm bringing something nice to wear,â Lucy said, seeing Onaâs curious look. âWe did all this effort so we might as well go all out now.â
Ona smiled as she packed up the food. âOkayyy, I like it.â
Once everything was packed and ready, they gathered up the dogs, grabbed their bags, and headed out the door.
As they stepped into Onaâs place a minute later, the clean space felt welcoming. They put their things in the fridge and on the kitchen counter, ready to be eaten in a few hours.
âYou think we have enough food?â Lucy asked laughing sarcastically, folding the empty bags.
Ona chuckled. âWell⊠I donât knowââ she teased back, ââwith you here.. hm, we might have to order food after this petite appetizer is finished.ââ
..
After a quick walk around the block with the dogs, Ona and Lucy found themselves back on the couch.
The golden glow of the evening sun filtered through the windows, casting the apartment in a soft, dreamy light. They had some time left before dinner, though they still needed to shower and change into their nicer clothes.
The day spent together in the kitchen had left them both feeling tired apparently, and before long, they were curled up in each otherâs arms. Ona laying comfortably on top of Lucy, both of them sinking into the warmth of the couch, nearly dozing off.
The steady rhythm of Lucyâs heartbeat beneath her cheek was enough to lull Ona into a light, peaceful haze.
That is, until Onaâs eyes suddenly fluttered open. âI have to pee,â she muttered quietly.
She carefully shifted off Lucy, trying not to disturb her too much, but Lucy woke up instantly, blinking at Ona with sleepy curiosity. âWhat are we going to do?â she asked, her voice slightly groggy.
Ona chuckled, shaking her head. âWe arenât going to do anything. You can stay right here. Iâll be back in a second.â
But Lucy wasnât having it. She sat up, immediately following Ona. âNooo,â Lucy whined playfully, reaching for her hand. âI want to be with you.â
Onaâs soft chuckle turned into a laugh as she gently nudged Lucy back onto the couch. âIâm just going to the bathroom. I think youâll survive.â
Lucy flopped back dramatically, crossing her arms. âIf youâre gone too long, Iâll die of loneliness.â
With a teasing roll of her eyes, Ona smiled and headed toward the bathroom, leaving Lucy behind with a pout.
A few minutes later, Ona returned and slipped back into her spot on the couch, settling against Lucy once again. They resumed their earlier position, Ona resting comfortably on top of her, their limbs entwined, the familiar warmth of Lucyâs body instantly soothing.
But as they cuddled, the soft conversation between them slowly shifted. Ona pressed some gentle kisses to Lucyâs neck, and the mood in the room began to change. Lucy sighed, her fingers brushing lightly against Onaâs arm, the casual touch making her shiver.
Ona shifted, leveling her face with Lucyâs. They looked in to each others eyes a couple of seconds before all they could think about was kissing eachother.
The kisses deepened, and Lucyâs hands found Onaâs back, pulling her closer. Their lips met in a slow, deliberate rhythm, growing more intense with every passing second. Their hands started to wander, exploring familiar territory with renewed urgency, and soon, their breaths came heavier.
After a few minutes Ona pulled back slightly, her lips hovering just above Lucyâs, âhmm⊠I missed you.â She hummed slightly out of breath but with a cute smile, her cheeks slightly pink from the intense make out.
Lucy grinned, her voice playful as she teased, âSee? You shouldâve let me come with you to the bathroom.â
Ona shook her head, rolling her eyes affectionately. âNo, I mean I missed you today.â
Lucy frowned slightly, confused. âWe were together all day, though.â
Ona leaned in again, brushing her lips softly over Lucyâs before whispering against her skin. âNot like this⊠I missed you.â
A slow smile spread across Lucyâs face as she caught on to what Ona meant. âWell,â Lucy murmured, her voice low and teasing, âyou did say if we had any energy leftâŠâ
With a swift movement, Lucy flipped their positions, pinning Ona gently beneath her on the couch. âAnd we still need to shower anyway,â she added with a grin, her lips brushing against Onaâs neck.
Ona closed her eyes, her breath catching as Lucyâs hand started to toy with the waistband of her comfy pants. âMhm we do,â she whispered, her body already responding to Lucyâs touch.
âŠ
Jana paced nervously outside Onaâs apartment building, her phone still clutched in her hand. âYeah but itâs been two days,â she muttered.
Vicky crossed her arms. âMaybe sheâs just having a quiet start to the year. You know how she is sometimes.â
âYeah, but not responding at all? Thatâs not like her,â Salma added, her brow furrowed. âWe just need to check in, make sure sheâs okay.â
Jana nodded, determination setting in. âLetâs just ask the doorman. Maybe he knows if sheâs home.â
The three of them made their way to the entrance, where the doorman greeted them politely. âGood afternoon, how can I help you?â
âWeâre looking for Ona Batlle,â Jana said, flashing a bright, reassuring smile. âWeâre friends with her. She hasnât been answering her phone, so we just want to check in.â
The doorman raised an eyebrow, glancing between them. âMiss Batlle? Iâm afraid I canât just give out information, you understandâŠâ
Salma pulled out her phone, flipping through her camera roll before holding up a picture of the four of them together, laughing during one of their many group outings. âSee? Weâre really her friends. We know sheâs a footballer,ââ She laughed, ââWe are footballers too. We just want to make sure sheâs alright.â
The doorman hesitated, studying the photo before nodding slowly. âMiss Batlle is home. Sheâs been in for a couple of days now, with⊠her friend.â
Jana and Salma exchanged curious glances, while Vicky leaned in. âHer friend?â
âYes,â the doorman said, sounding uncertain. âMaybe I shouldnât have said anything.ââ He cringed.
The trio exchanged intrigued looks. A friend? Was Ona hiding someone from them? Was this why she cancelled going to the party tonight with just one simple text?
âWe could just go in and check, right?â Salma suggested, her voice playful now, eyes gleaming with curiosity. âWe donât want to disturb her if sheâs busy, but weâŠââ she looked at her two friends, ââwant to surprise her.. she was going to this party with us tonight and it would be nice if I we can surprise her here, give her our best new years wishes.â
The doorman hesitated again, but Jana was quick to reassure him, her smile wide. âWe wonât cause any trouble. Weâll just pop in, say hi, and leave her be. Promise.â
With some reluctance, and after a few more reassurances, the doorman sighed, grabbing the spare key to Onaâs apartment from the little office behind him. âAlright, but I expect this key back within the hour.â
âOf course!â Vicky grinned, already eager to get inside and satisfy her curiosity.
As Jana, Salma, and Vicky made their way up to Onaâs apartment, their playful banter filled the hallway.
âDo you think sheâs been hiding a new girlfriend from us this whole time?â Salma teased, a mischievous glint in her eyes.
âEither way, weâre about to find out,â Vicky added, holding the spare key in her hand, the excitement building as they imagined finally meeting this mystery friend who had kept Ona so occupied.
ââHonestly, I thought she was going to get something with Lucy.ââ Jana said, ââthose two have so much chemistry.ââ
Vicky chuckled, ââOMG, what if it is Lucy.. the mystery friend.ââ
Salma shook her head chuckling, ââno way, Lucy lives in this building too, the guy wouldâve known her name, and by the way, isnât Lucy like way older?ââ
ââAge is just a number baby.ââ Vicky said, laughing loudly.
ââEw,ââ Jana shook her head, ââas a minor you shouldnât say that bro, you are not dating someone thatâs above 18.ââ
Vicky shrugged, ââWhat if their hot.. besides isnât your girlfriend like 5 years older?ââ
Jana blushed, ââyeah but we met when we were both of legal age.ââ
ââAnyways, I bet itâs a hot chick.ââ Salma said, ââif Ona doesnât even answers her phone for two days.. she must be very distracting.ââ
ââOMG, what if we walk in on them fucking.ââ Vicky chuckled.
ââVICKY!ââ Salma and Jana hissed, nearing Onaâs apartment.
It was strange for the group of three, they had only been here a couple of times. Always with Ona leading the way. But they knew which door it was.
They stayed silent as Salma carefully opened the door.
They followed eachother. Jana stepping inside first. âOna! Surprise!â she called, chuckling to herself. âWe figured you lost your phone so we came to grab you, to drag you and your secret friend to the party!â
The trio giggled, quickly walking further into the apartment, trying to stifle their laughter. âOna, are you home? We miss you!â Vicky added, her voice lilting with amusement.
It was a bit creepy to just walk in to someoneâs house, even if it was their friendâs. It felt invading.
As they stepped into the living room, all three came to a sudden halt, the scene before them causing their jaws to drop.
Ona was laid out on the couch, her body arching under Lucy, who was kneeling between her legs, very clearly in the middle of⊠a very intimate moment. Onaâs fingers were tangled in Lucyâs hair, her head tipped back, completely lost in the moment, unaware of her friends' entrance. Whimpering as Lucy was groaning between her legs.
The room was thick with the unmistakable tension of the moment, and for a split second, none of them could speak. It was Jana who broke the silence, unable to keep it together any longer.
âOh. My. Fucking. God.â
Onaâs eyes flew open, and her entire body jolted in shock. âHoly shit!â she gasped, pushing Lucyâs shoulders gently as she whipped her head around toward the three people, her face instantly turning beet red.
Lucy, who had been too focused to notice anything, jumped up in surprise, quickly reaching for the nearest blanket and throwing it over Ona. âJesus!â she muttered, scrambling to get up from the floor, her own cheeks turning pink.
Jana, Salma, and Vicky stood frozen, wide-eyed and slack-jawed, until Vicky let out a loud, hysterical laugh. âI knew it!â she cackled, covering her face as she doubled over.
Jana blinked, her shock quickly melting into a grin. âWe fucking knew it!â she exclaimed, pointing a finger between the two of them. âFinally, you cleared things up between you two.â
Ona buried her face in her hands, letting out a loud groan. âOh my god, you guysâwhy are you here?!â she squeaked, her voice muffled by her hands.
Jana shook her head, trying not to laugh, but failing miserably. âWe were worried! You havenât been on your phone for two days, even for you thatâs long, we thought something had happened. Turns out, something did happen, just not what we expected.â
Salma nodded, her eyes still wide. âI canât comprehend this. You.. with Lucy?!.â
Lucy, still blushing, cleared her throat, managing a sheepish smile as she adjusted the blanket around Ona. âYeah, well, surprise?â
âYou know whatâs surprising?â Jana chimed in, still laughing. âThat it took you guys this long to get here. Weâve all been watching you two moon over each other for months.â
Onaâs mortification was clear, her cheeks still burning as she peeked out from behind her hands. âI hate all of you,â she muttered.
âCome on, weâre just happy for you,â Vicky teased, stepping forward and grinning. âThough next time, maybe give us a heads-up before we⊠you know, get traumatized.â
Lucy cringed, ââFucking hell, Vicky, I hope you didnât see anything.ââ
Salma and Jana looked at eachother, ââso for us two it isnât traumatic?ââ
Ona pulled the blanked over her head, ââIt is traumatic for all five of us, please leave.ââ She muttered from under the blanked.
Salma smirked. âYeah, I guess weâll leave you two to⊠finish this... but we expect you guys tonight at the party.â
Vicky burst into laughter again, while Ona just groaned, pulling the blanket tighter around herself. âPlease go away. Iâll see you guys next year, when everyone has forgotten this all.â
With a final laugh and a few knowing looks exchanged between the friends, they began to back out of the apartment, still chuckling to themselves as they left, not believing what just happened.
As the door clicked shut, Ona let out another long groan, burying her face in Lucyâs chest. Who had dropped besides her on the couch. âI canât believe that just happened.â
Lucy wrapped her arms around Ona, kissing the top of her head. âTraining will be horrible. But at least the news is out now I guess, we donât have to be secret anymore.â
Ona peeked up at her, her expression still mortified. âYeah, but did it have to be like that?â
Lucy smirked, brushing a strand of hair from Onaâs face. âHey, at least they seemed happy for us, well⊠mostly.â
Ona sighed, leaning back against the couch. âIâll never live this down.â
âWeâll be fine,â Lucy said sympathetic, leaning down to press a soft kiss to Onaâs lips. âBesides, weâve got more important things to focus on right now.â She said, removing the blanket from Ona.

MWAHAHAHAHHA. ALTERNATIVE ENDING TIMEEE. The vender flowers fic thing. I am here to request an alternative angst ending. Ok SO *cracks knuckles* Mel still chooses you and still goes to your place to confess. However, when u lean in to kiss her, she kisses u back. Then, smut (yâall sleep together). Then, she goes home to break up w Gary. She explains her feelings and he was so understanding and loving that she realizes she doesnât want to let him go. So they end up staying together. Then at school u see her w Gary and youâre (patiently) like âhey whatâs up have u done it yet like whatâs goin onâ and she tells u that she hasnât but she will and that she canât wait to be with you. Then yâall fuck again maybe or just make out idk, up to u, and youâre all happi and giggly BUT THEN the next day she tells u the truth. That she doesnât wanna let him go and youâre like âok so u just used me/lied so u could get the best of both worlds/just to sleep w meâ and then idk what she says after that u can pick. And idk how to end this u can pick hahaha.
Alright, I finished it! And before anyone asks, we made a deal that if I do a lot of angst then I can have my happy ending. đ Although I think itâs more sad than angsty. And when you put the cracks knuckles, I burst out laughing. Not edited in the slightest and I hope you like it.
On another note: I notice that half of you put compliments for me in your prompts and I love reading them, you guys are so sweet! đ„čâ€ïž Also I spent 10 minutes picking out a gif cause I got distracted looking at LisaâŠI regret nothing.
Part 1 Part 2
The Vendor, The Teacher and The Roses - Alt End
Warnings: where to start? A bit of toxic Mel, angst, sadness, heartbreak, fluff, smut, happy ending. I literally went through a whole rollercoaster of emotions while writing this so good luck!
Words: 7.3k
âWhat do you mean when you said you chose me?â You ask her.
âI mean if I went home then I would be choosing Gary, and I know I would lose you. If I came here then I would be choosing you and lose Gary.â She tells you. âAnd I canât lose you.â She adds on and you look at her shocked.
âBut you can lose Gary?â You ask her and she nods.
âHeâs not as important as you.â She tells you and you look down at your fingers and twiddle your thumbs. Melissa takes your hand with hers and interlace your fingers and brings her other hand to your chin and gets you to look up at her. âI want to be with you.â She tells you and a tear rolls down your cheek. She wipes the tear and cups your cheek.
âI want to be with you too.â You tell her and you lean forward to kiss her and she leans forward to kiss you back. Once your lips connect you immediately feel that this is right, where youâre supposed to be and youâre already hooked on her.
Melissa is feeling the same way and she puts her hands in your hair and moans. She pushes you back on the couch to deepen the kiss but you stop her.
âMe-Melissa.â You say and she pulls back and looks at you. âWe shouldnât do anything else, youâre still with Gary.â You tell her and leans forward to you and puts her hands in your hair again.
âI donât care, Iâve wanted you for so long and I donât want to wait any longer.â She says and kisses you again. She pushes you back again and this time you let her. Sheâs on top of you now and runs her fingers down your body and you gasp a bit and she slides her tongue in your mouth. You moan at that and she takes her shirt off and you run your hands all over the newly exposed skin. She brings her mouth to your neck and leaves kisses all over it.
âMelissa, do you want to go to the bedroom? Lot more space on the bed.â You suggest and she groans. She then slides her hand under you and pushes you closer to her and she sits up and brings you with her. She then picks you up and she stands up and carries you to the bed. She goes back on top of you and goes and sucks your neck and you gasp and buck your hips. She then unclips her bra and takes it off then takes your shirt off. Her breasts fall out of her bra and are freed from their prison and you set your eyes on them and stare. âTake your pants off.â You tell her and she pulls back from your neck and looks at you before she takes her pants and underwear off. At the same time you take your pants and underwear off. She then goes back to you and all you have on is your bra and she straddles your lap as youâre sitting against the headboard. She gets hit by a wave of desire for you and starts grinding your leg and you go and suck on a nipple. She takes the opportunity to unclip your bra and take it off then places her hands on your boobs.
You then place her between your legs and slide a finger in her entrance and she moans out. You notice sheâs tight and you slide another finger in to really fill her and she falls forward into you. âOmg! Yes!â She says and you slide them in and out and quickly go faster. âOmg! That feels so good! Yes! Donât stop! Oh fuck!â She screams out.
âYouâre so tight. Been awhile?â You ask her and she nods. âHmm, how long?â You ask.
â3âŠweâŠweeks.â She says and you smile.
âHe has you and is able to go 3 weeks without sex?â You say and she whines. You figure he must have a lower than average sex drive and it must be driving her crazy as 3 weeks is too long for her. âYou know, when we get together, I donât think Iâll be able to go more than 3 days without fucking you.â You tell her and she whines again. You place a hand on her back and pull her closer to you and she moans. You place your thumb on her clit and she gasps. A few seconds later her legs start shaking and you feel her clench around your fingers. âGo on and cum.â You tell her and she comes a couple seconds later. You stop your fingers but she starts riding them and places her thumb between her legs to rub her clit and she must still need more and you smile. âOh youâre very horny.â You say and she moans. You move your fingers in her again and she gasps. You move her fingers out of the way and place your thumb back on her clit and rub it. She places her hands on your back and has her body pushed right up against you. Her legs start shaking again and she comes seconds later. This time itâs you that doesnât stop and she cries out as she feels another orgasm building and sheâs sensitive. The next one hits not even 30 seconds later and she screams out as she comes. You pull out of her gently and sheâs holding on to you tightly and you donât move as her heart rate slows down. She then slides off of you and down your body and is on her stomach and connects her mouth to your clit.
âI love how you taste.â She tells you and goes right back to licking your clit.
âOoohhh MelâŠomg your tongue feels so good!â You say between gasps. She then slides two fingers in your entrance and you scream out. It doesnât take long until you come with her name in your mouth. She pulls out of you and comes to lay down beside you.
You cuddle each other for a few minutes until you stop shaking and youâre breathing normally. You then go and get a cloth and you both clean yourself up. Melissa then gets dressed and she gives you another kiss before she leaves to go home to end things with Gary.
When she gets home, she takes a deep breath before getting out of the car and going inside. She sees Gary sitting on the couch and watching tv and heâs looking at her with a smile.
âHey, youâre home. Whereâd you go?â He says without any judgement, just curiosity.
âI went to see y/n.â She said to him and he nods, knowing you two are good friends.
âHow is she?â He asks and she walks towards him.
âGood. We need to talk though.â She says and sits on the couch next to him. He turns off the tv and turns to her and gives her his full attention.
Melissa then explains everything, leaving out the part that you two had sex. She tells him about the friendship you two formed and when her feelings for you started. Then she admits that she found out you feel the same and thatâs why she went to see you.
âAnd I feel bad about it cause youâre really good to me and I never wanted to hurt you.â She finishes and Gary looks at her with understanding. He then explains how he knew something was going on with the way you both look at each other. Then explains that heâs always wanted whatâs best for her and to support her. Melissa looks at him shocked. She expected for him to be angry, not supportive of what she wants and sheâs overwhelmed with it. She realises she doesnât want to let him go but also doesnât want to let you go, she doesnât know what to do.
The next day Melissa and Gary arrive in the break room in the morning and you frown. You thought she was talking to him last night but then thought that maybe she didnât want to do it on Valentineâs Day.
It did hurt a bit when you also see them at lunch, being all happy but didnât mention anything. Melissa noticed your reaction all day and she feels guilty, knowing sheâll have to make a decision. At the end of the day you go to see her in her classroom.
âHey Melissa.â You say to her and she spins around to look at you with a smile.
âHey y/n.â
âSo whatâs up?â
âIâm happy that itâs Friday.â She answers and you close her door.
âYa so am I. I was wondering if youâve done it yet or are you going to, you know, break up with Gary.â You tell her and she smiles at you.
âYa, I didnât want to do it yesterday being as it was Valentineâs Day and a Thursday but Iâll do it. I honestly canât wait to be with you.â She says and you go and kiss her. She kisses you back and it turns into a heated make out session. You end up getting pushed to her desk and you go and sit on top of it, continuing to make out with her. You then pull back after making out for a few minutes. âI just love kissing you already.â She says and you smile at her.
âI love kissing you too. And I canât wait until I can kiss you whenever.â You tell her and she smiles at you.
âIâll let you know when I break up with him.â She says and boops your nose and you giggle.
âAlright, but donât make me wait long.â You tell her and she gives you another kiss and then you both leave.
You go home and sit on your couch and watch tv for the rest of the day, waiting to see when sheâll text you that she broke up with him. You donât get a text that evening.
The next day she comes to your place in the morning and you open up the door and smile widely when you see her.
âMorning Melissa, so does this mean itâs done?â You ask her and she looks down at the floor.
âWe got to talk.â She says and your smile drops and you tilt your head.
âUmâŠok.â You say and let her in.
You both sit on your couch and she takes a few deep breaths before speaking.
âI spoke to Gary on Thursday night after coming back from your place. I told him everything, well except for us having sex. And he was so understanding and supportive and I couldnât let him go. And now I donât want to let him go at all but I also donât want to let you go.â She admits and you look at her. Youâre processing everything that she just told you and you sigh.
âSo let me see if I got this right. So you lied to me and used me to just get the best of both? For him to meet your emotional needs and sleep with me to meet your sexual needs?â You ask and she nods.
âIâm sorry, I never want to hurt either of you.â She says and you suck in a breath.
âYou canât have both of us Melissa, itâs one or the other.â You tell her and she looks defeated.
âI donât know who to choose.â She admits and your anger comes out.
âIf you canât choose then that means that you just donât want to tell me that itâs him youâre choosing.â You say sternly and she goes to answer but you donât want to hear anymore. âGet out.â You grit through your teeth and she looks taken back by your words. âI said get out!â You yell and point to the door. Melissa is on the verge of tears so she does as you say and leaves.
You immediately block her number and text Ava asking if she has plans tonight. She texts you back and tells you what club sheâs going to and if you wanted to tag along. You immediately accept and you go to the bar with her and a couple friends of hers and you get drunk. You dance most of the night and get hit on by men and women. You kiss a couple women and by the end of the night Ava gets you a ride home.
You spend Sunday morning trying to not die and get rid of your major hangover that doesnât leave until the afternoon. Then you spend the rest of the day doing chores, grading and making a couple changes to your lesson plan.
On Monday morning Melissa tries to talk to you but you shut her down and avoid her. You end up avoiding her all day, which is followed by all week and followed by all month.
At the start, Melissa tries to talk to you every chance she gets and found out quickly that you blocked her. As the days go on with you doing everything to avoid her, her hope and determination of talking to you and trying to make it up to you, goes down. You see she eventually gets the hint and stops trying to talk to you. You see she still glances at you throughout the day but those become fewer and fewer as the days pass. Glances you can handle though, as long as she doesnât try and talk to you then you can deal with her looking at you.
Eventually she stops looking at you at all and you two are basically just co workers who donât interact. You start to make friends with other teachers that arenât friends with Melissa or anyone that is friends with Melissaâs friends. Everyone notices the growing distance between you both and Barb is the first to mention something.
âWhatâs going on with you and y/n?â Barb asks, about 2 weeks after you started avoiding her.
âNothing, nothing is going on.â Melissa says with a bit of anger. No one mentions it again but feels bad that Melissa is taking it hard, while you seemed to have moved on easily. Ava did mention that you went out to a club with her and her friends and kissed a couple girls, to which Melissa was shocked and got upset at that.
You want everyone to see that what happened between you and Melissa didnât heavily affect you but in reality, it crushed you.
About 3 months later, youâre having a rather rough night after a bad date so in a split second decision, you unblock her number. All the texts that she sent you in those 3 months pop up and youâre shocked at the amount of texts there were, probably about 200.
Melissa knew you blocked her number but still chose to text you anyway, it made her feel better and no one tried to stop her.
You read all the messages and you feel like you went on a rollercoaster of emotions. She starts with saying how sorry she is about what happened and that she broke up with Gary a week after. Then she goes on saying that she misses you, she misses having you around her, even just as a friend. She says that she wants to have you back and will do anything to make it up to you.
You start to feel sympathy for her as you read them and then remember what she did and how it made you feel and then go back to angry at her and continue reading.
The texts start to get a bit angry as sheâs upset about what happened and obviously going through the 5 stages of grief. She goes on saying a bunch of English and Italian curse words, some directed at you and some about the situation. She then goes and apologises for everything she said, even if you never see the texts sheâll know what she said and would feel bad about it. It takes you a good 2 hours to get through all of them. Her last text being the one that hits the hardest.
Melissa: I know you havenât seen any of these and might never. But wanted to apologise for everything that happened. For not noticing the signs, not having the courage to admit my feelings, and then putting you through hell and having sex with you. I never wanted to use you, it was never my intention. And Iâm sorry about the fact that it took losing you to figure out what I want. I guess itâs true what they say, you never know your lover until you let her go. I spent almost 3 months sending you texts, I donât even know why, but it made me feel better in a way. But now itâs time to fully let go of everything. I wish you the best luck and life you could have and Iâm sorry that I messed it up and wonât get to see you thrive and live your best life. Love, Melissa
You cried so much that night and you think about everything that happened and everything she told you and all the texts she sent you. Melissa on the other hand didnât notice that all her texts went through to you, even the one she sent a week ago. The one she knew she had to send to finally let you go and move on herself.
A week goes by as if you didnât read all her texts. Youâre debating whether you should talk to her or not and think that you should protect yourself and your heart from her. But on the other hand you think about her texts and how hurt she sounded. You see her throughout the day and see that sheâs now mostly healed from what happened and you shouldnât put each other through that again. You come to the decision that you two will never talk and be in each other's lives again.
That day happens to be the same one that youâre too in your head and donât see a car coming straight for you. All the teachers are heading out to their cars across the street, as theyâre fixing the parking lot. Youâre crossing the street and it seems you parked right behind Melissa so you two are heading in the same direction. You start crossing the street as sheâs saying goodbye to Barb and about to cross as well. Melissa sees a car coming and you donât notice as youâre crossing, she immediately starts running towards you, and pushes you out of the way right before the car hits you.
Melissa gets hit by the car instead and goes flying into the windshield. Luckily the driver was slowing down as he noticed you walking out onto the street, he still did damage to Melissa but fortunately didnât kill her. The driver was able to fully stop and got out to go check on her, as well as Barb who saw the whole thing. You hit the pavement and turned around to see Melissa hitting the windshield and rolling off the car. You run towards her as well, overwhelmed with what just happened. You all go towards her and the driver calls for an ambulance.
âMelissa!â You say as you reach her and sheâs unconscious as she hit her head on the windshield.
âOh my Lord!â Barb says as she reaches you both. You both stay by her until the ambulance arrives.
Janine, Jacob, Gregory, Ava and Mr Johnson end up seeing the commotion before the ambulance arrive and go towards it to see what happened. As they get closer they realise Melissa got hit by the car and they start running.
âOmg what happened?â Janine says and sees you with Melissaâs head in your lap and Barb trying to comfort you.
âAll my fault!â You exclaimed through tears.
âNo itâs not dear. You forgot to check for cars and didnât notice the car coming, it happens. But it was Melissaâs decision to push you out of the way and got hit by the car instead of you.â Barb says and Janine and Jacob gasp. Ava puts a hand over her mouth in shock, Gregory and Mr Johnson are too stunned to do anything. They all stay with you until the ambulance arrives.
The ambulance gets there 4 minutes after the call was made and they check her over quickly and say she has to go to the hospital for further examination and treatment. They gently and quickly put her on the stretcher and into the ambulance, and then drive to the hospital.
They all stay next to you as they all watch the ambulance drive Melissa to the hospital. Youâre still blaming yourself for what happened and even wish that she didnât push you out of the way. She shouldnât pay the consequences for your mistake.
You look defeated and walk towards your car and Barb speaks up. âDear, do you want to get a ride with me and Gerald to the hospital?â She asks you and you turn around.
âWhy would I go to the hospital?â You ask her.
âTo go see Melissa.â She says with a gentle tone.
âIâm not going to see her. This is all my fault. I mean why did she even push me out of the way? She should have let me get hit by that car!â You say and everyone but Barb leaves so you and Barb can have privacy.
âSweetheart, it was Melissaâs decision. And she pushed you out of the way because even though whatever happened between you two happened, she still cares about you and would rather save you then watch you get hurt.ïżœïżœ She explains softly.
âWe havenât talked in 3 months because I cut her out of my life! How can she still care about me?â You ask with tears in your eyes.
âMelissa feels deeply for people in her life. Once you find yourself in her life then she has hard time letting go, I saw her struggle with trying to let you go. She never said what happened, all she told me was that she screwed up with you.â Barb tells you and youâre crying at this point but you stay away from her when she tries to comfort you.
âIâm not going to the hospital, itâs my fault she got hurt and I donât want to hurt her more. I do hope she makes a full recovery quickly though.â You tell her and Barb knows youâre not going to change your mind and lets you go. You go to your car and drive home.
She gets Gerald to drive to the hospital to go see Melissa, as well as the trio. Theyâre surprised when you donât show up and Barb tells them that you blame yourself. Melissa does end up waking up a few hours later after the doctors treated her injuries. Janine was the first to notice and makes her way to her side beside Barb as Gregory goes to get a Doctor saying sheâs awake.
The doctor asks her a few questions and checks her over again and says that sheâs healing properly and should be good to go home in a few days. They did mention sheâll need crutches as she got hit in the leg and they put a cast on her left leg. Once the doctor leaves, the trio stays for about half an hour before heading home. As soon as they leave, that's when Melissa asks Barb about you.
âIâm sorry, I tried to get her to come but she was very against it, saying she doesnât want to hurt you again, and blaming herself for what happened.â Barb tells her and Melissa groans and puts her head back on the pillow. âIf itâs any consolation, she was surprised that you pushed her out of the way. She thought you didnât care about her anymore.â Barb tells her and Melissa looks at her.
âOn Valentineâs Day she was going to see me with flowers and a card to confess her feelings for me. She saw how Gary and I declared our feelings and threw out the flowers and the card in the garbage. I guess she must have kicked it in anger cause the bin was knocked over and I saw the flowers and the card. I went over to her place right after and we both confessed our feelings.â Melissa is finally telling Barb what happened. âBut then I screwed up. We didnât hold back and weâŠwe had sex. Then I promised her to go and break up with Gary. I went to do that, like I talked to him about it all but the way he was supportive and understanding made me not want to let him go since itâs been so long since I had a partner like that.â Melissa says and Barb nods in understanding. âShe came and talked to me the next day and I promised again to break up with him. But then on Saturday I went over to her house and told her the truth and I said I couldnât choose between them. She got angry and told me to get out.â Melissa finishes. âThatâs what happened.â
âMelissa, you made a mistake, I mean my god. You and y/n are both putting blame on yourselves for making a mistake because youâre human.â Barb says. âItâs not your fault that Garyâs support and understanding made you feel good and left you confused because Joe kept hurting you. And itâs not y/nâs fault that she got distracted and didnât notice the car coming at her and the fact that you pushed her out of the way and got hit instead.â Barb says and Melissa sniffles. âShe got so mad at herself that she wished you just let her get hit.â Barb tells her and Melissa looks at her in shock. âI know you wouldnât have let that happen and I told her that. But something tells me that thereâs more to y/nâs side than she was letting on.â Barb tells her and Melissa goes to her phone to go to your texts to see pictures you sent her. And thatâs when her face pales instantly. âWhat?â Barb asks when she sees Melissaâs face.
âThey sent. All the texts that I sent her got delivered. That means she unblocked my number and she must have read them or at least a few of them. Probably not all since I sent a lot.â Melissa says and rambles a bit.
âDo you know when she unblocked your number.â Barb asks.
âIt says it was deliveredâŠlast week.â Melissa says the last 2 words quietly.
âYou know I did notice that she was distracted this week and that she looked at you a few times.â Barb says, knowing that you acted differently this week but didnât say anything. When you cut Melissa out, you also cut out her, the trio, Ava and Mr Johnson, pretty much everyone in Melissaâs life from school.
A week goes by and Melissa returns back after that. The cast has to stay on her leg for a month and then a brace after for another month. Sheâs using crutches that she learned to use in the hospital during her stay there.
You secretly spy on her for a week when she returns and you see her get frustrated a few times about her limitations. You stay away though, thinking itâs the best course of action. You even hand Ava your notice, saying after the school year ends in a month, youâre not coming back. Ava accepts the notice but never approves you leaving, she said sheâll put it through on the last day.
On the second week that Melissa returns, she moves one of the crutches wrong, causing her to slip and fall. You happened to be right behind her and you caught her. It took both of you a second to figure out what happened and you lock eyes when you help her back up.
âThank you.â She tells you and you look down at the ground before looking back up.
âI should be thanking you, this would have been me if you didnât push me.â You say and she stares at you. This is the first time you guys talk to each other in over 3 months. âMelissa, why did you push me? Why didnât you just let me get hit?â You ask, the guilt eating away at you.
âWhy would I let you get hit? I care about you and I donât want to see you hurt, especially if I could prevent it.â She says. âIâll take having to walk around in a cast and with crutches, and cursing when I canât do something the same way for a bit, if it means that you donât have too.â She tells you genuinely and youâre speechless.
âHow have you been getting to school and back?â You suddenly ask and she tilts her head at you, confused.
âBarb and Gerald have been driving me. They let me sit in the passenger seat to have room for my leg, and they help me in and out of the car.â She explains.
âCan I drive you home tonight?â You blurt out and it takes both of you by surprise. âTo give them a break and as a thank you for saving me.â You tell her and she smiles.
âYou donât have to thank me.â She tells you.
âI do actually. I don't know many people who would save someone from getting hit by a car and let themselves get hit instead.â You tell her and she looks down and blushes.
âIf you really want, then sure. Iâm sure Gerald and Barb would like the break.â She says and you nod.
âOk, Iâll come to your classroom after school then.â You say and she nods and you walk to your classroom. Melissa watches you walk away and she sighs contentedly. Maybe she can make it up to you after all.
Ava saw the interaction and passes by Melissa. âYou might want to interact with her while you still can.â Ava tells her and Melissa looks at her confused.
âWhat is that supposed to mean?â She asks.
âIt means that she gave her notice a couple days ago. After the year is done then sheâs not coming back.â Ava tells Melissa, and if she didnât have crutches then she would have fallen right there.
âSheâs leaving?â Melissa mutters but Ava hears her and nods.
âLike I said, interact with her while you still can. Thereâs 3 weeks until school is done.â Ava says and walks away.
Melissa feels like the weight that once crushed her 3 months ago came back. You were leaving Abbott in 3 weeks and she didnât know why. She thought you loved it here.
At the end of the day, sheâs sitting at her desk when you come and knock on her door thatâs open, signalling your presence.
âReady to go?â You ask and she looks at you. You were probably never going to tell her that youâre leaving, this favour youâre doing is the only thing that youâll probably do as a thank you before leaving. You were probably just going to finish up the last 3 weeks, and not mention to anyone that youâre leaving. And just leave them to figure it out when they donât see you again. A bit of anger courses through her at that.
âWhy are you leaving?â She asks you and you look at her stunned. You told Ava to not tell anyone, you just want to leave quietly.
âAva couldnât keep her mouth shut I see.â You say and her face gets more stern. âIâll tell you in the car.â You say and she takes that compromise. You help her up and then walk beside her all the way to your car. You take her crutches and help her stay up as she gets in the car and then put the crutches in the back seat.
You get in and start the car and start the way to her house. You see her looking at you and you sigh and take a breathe before answering her question.
âIâm leaving because I have too ok.â You start and she looks confused. âI donât belong here anymore. I made a couple friends with teachers but nothing too serious. I feel lonely here and all the students and teachers know that you got hit because you saved me. Do you know how many weird looks I get from people daily? I lose count. And I feel guilty everytime I see you or when I hear your crutches. Youâre the only one who made me feel welcomed when I got here, and then I cut you and everyone you know at Abbott out of my life. So now I have no one. I figured it was best to leave and just start fresh.â You tell her.
âAnd you werenât going to tell anyone?â She asks.
âThereâs no one to tell.â You tell her casually and with a shrug. That got to her, the way you said, like you accepted it.
âYou told Ava not to tell anyone.â She says.
âThatâs because I didnât want anyone asking why Iâm leaving.â You say and glance at her.
âHow many of my texts did you read?â She blurts out and she sees you tense. âI saw they got delivered to you, a week before the accident.â She tells you and you sigh.
âI came home after a bad date and I felt vulnerable so I unblocked your number.â You tell her and she gets surprised by you having a date, that means youâre dating again. Melissa decided to break up with Gary and swore off dating forever, not wanting the drama and pain it causes. âI read all of them.â You admit and her eyes go wide. She thought you would never see a single one and it was her way of therapy for losing you.
âI thought you would never see them.â She says and looks down.
âWell whatever the reason you sent so many must have helped as you moved on.â You tell her and snaps her head up at you. âYou said so in the last text and you seemed lighter, the week before the accident.â You say. âItâs part of the reason why I thought you didnât care about me anymore.â You admit.
âWhat are the other reasons?â She canât help but ask.
âThe fact that I cut you out of my life and you eventually stopped trying to talk to me. I thought youâre the queen of cutting people out and not having any emotional attachment to people that you cut out. Also, I thought youâd be happy with Gary and forget about me.â You tell her and that stung her.
âI broke up with me and I swore off dating.â She tells you and you let out an airy laugh.
âYa right. Melissa, I know you, you want to be loved, you want to spend your days with someone. For them to give you physical affection and you love cooking for people that you love and want to show that you care.â You tell her.
âYouâre right, I want to spend my days with the right person. But that person cut me out of her life because I fucked it up.â She tells you and youâre glad thereâs a red light or else you might have made a mistake while driving. âSo yes, I gave up because I didnât see a point.â She tells you and you turn into her neighbourhood. Youâre silent for the minute it takes until you pull up in her driveway and then you turn to look at her.
âWhy didnât you choose me then?â You ask her. âI gave you a choice. You told me on Valentineâs Day that you chose me then 2 days later you said you're not choosing me anymore.â You obviously still have anger about what happened.
âI went home and did start to talk to Gary to break up with him. But I never got so much support and understanding that I got from him from anyone else, including Joe. It felt nice and I got confused. I broke up with him a week later but by then it was too late, I already lost you.â She says and a tear rolls down her cheek from remembering how it felt to lose you. âY/n, it took me 3 months to not always feel the pain of losing you. All I wanted was to talk to you, for you to have me back in any way that you were comfortable with, because I just wanted you in my life. I looked lighter like I moved on but I didnât, it seemed like that because I was adjusting to life without you, I was finally forcing myself to accept that you werenât going to be in my life again.â She tells you and looks you in the eyes. âThen I saw that car coming right for you and you didnât notice. So before I even thought about it, I was running towards you and pushed you to safety, knowing it was you or me that was going to get hit. And I chose for me to get hit, because I care about you. And honestly, if I knew everything that was going to happen, I would have still done it.â She tells you and a tear rolls down your cheek.
She goes to wipe it away but you beat her to it. You turn away from her and wipe your eyes. âCome on, Iâll help you get to your house then Iâll leave you be.â You tell her and she grabs your arm and you look at her.
âYou have never been in my way. Youâre the best thing that ever happened to me. I regret not breaking up with Gary when I should have, I regret not choosing you when you gave me the option. Thereâs so many things I regret and they all centre around you. I regret all the things that made me lose you.â She tells you sternly, making you understand the importance of what sheâs saying. You look at her and see how vulnerable sheâs being and youâre stunned, sheâs never this vulnerable to anyone. Without thinking, you lean in and kiss her. Melissa is stunned for a second then kisses you back. She missed you and even though she only had a few kisses with you, she still remembered what it was like and missed being intimate with you. You pull back a few seconds later with fear in your eyes. âWhatâs wrong?â She asks you as soon as she sees your eyes.
âI donât know what came over me. I mean weâre both trying to move on and then I go and do that.â You say and she laughs. You look at her and furrow your eyebrows, confused as hell.
âOh y/n, I gave you a whole love confession and you think I could ever move on from you?â She asks and your brain goes blank. âYouâre adorable. Youâre so smart but so clueless. I love you y/n, I always will. No matter what happens, my heart will belong to you.â She tells you and she cups your cheek. âWhether you forgive me or not, whether weâre ever together or never together, if you cut me out of your life forever or let me back in. Even if you break my heart or decide to spend your life with someone else and I have to watch. I will always love you. These past 3 months, Iâve been loving you from a distance. Every day it broke my heart but I never stopped loving you.â She tells you.
âThatâs the sweetest thing Iâve ever heard. And Iâve watched so many romance movies and read so many romance novels, been to multiple weddings and never heard anything as sweet as that.â You tell her and she gives you a watery smile. She goes to pull her hand back when you donât react further but you grab it and place it back on your cheek and lean into her touch. You undo your seatbelt and lunge forward and kiss her.
âWoah!â She says as it takes her by surprise. Your lips land on hers and she immediately kisses you back. You pull back after a few seconds and look at her.
âI love you too.â You simply say and she smiles. âIâm not even going to attempt a speech because it will never come close to yours.â You tell her and she giggles.
âI donât need one. I know how you feel about me. I see it in your eyes and feel it in your kisses.â She tells you.
âYou should seriously stop talking, because youâre saying all the sweetest things.â You say and she gives you a kiss.
âAs much as I would love to stay in this car with you, my butt is going numb.â She tells you and you get out of the car, grab her crutches and open her door. She uses you to push herself up and balances herself with the crutches. You help her into her house and onto her couch. You feel out of place here and you donât really know what else to do so you say goodbye.
âWell if you donât need anything else then Iâll just go.â You tell her and she tilts her head at you.
âYou donât want to stay?â She asks.
âWell do you need help with anything else?â You ask.
âYou donât have to help me with something as a reason to stay.â She tells you and sees the conflict in your eyes. âWell it would help if you stayed. Keep me company cause Iâve been really bored. Sitting here most of the evening with nothing to do. I canât even cook a lot because that requires two hands and perfect timing. And I wouldnât mind some cuddles. You were right about that too, I crave physical affection from a partner.â She tells you and you make your way over and sit beside her on the couch. You donât miss the way she beams when you decide not to leave.
âI knew you were a big softie.â You tease and she glares at you.
âIf you tell anyone-â
âYouâll what?â You counter and raise your eyebrows, questioning her threat.
âWell I wouldnât do anything to you but Iâll have to kill them.â She says and you laugh, knowing her threat is empty.
âI do forgive you btw, for what happened. Do you forgive me for what happened to you?â You ask her and sheâs confused.
âY/n, there was nothing to forgive, you didnât do anything.â
âIf I paid attention then it wouldnât have forced you to save me.â You tell her.
âY/n, like I said thereâs nothing to forgive, but if it makes you feel better then I forgive you.â She tells you and you hug her. You have your arms wrapped around her neck and body pressed to hers. She puts her hands on your back cautiously then hugs you back. Feeling this is more intimate than any kiss she had with her exes. Itâs a hug full of love, of promise to not letting each other go again. And you both keep that promise till death do you part.

Amazon Alexa is a graduate of the Darth Vader MBA
Next Tuesday (Oct 31) at 10hPT, the Internet Archive is livestreaming my presentation on my recent book, The Internet Con.
If you own an Alexa, you might enjoy its integration with IFTTT, an easy scripting environment that lets you create your own little voice-controlled apps, like "start my Roomba" or "close the garage door." If so, tough shit, Amazon just nuked IFTTT for Alexa:
https://www.theverge.com/2023/10/25/23931463/ifttt-amazon-alexa-applets-ending-support-integration-automation
Amazon can do this because the Alexa's operating system sits behind a cryptographic lock, and any tool that bypasses that lock is a felony under Section 1201 of the DMCA, punishable by a 5-year prison sentence and a $500,000 fine. That means that it's literally a crime to provide a rival OS that lets users retain functionality that Amazon no longer supports.
This is the proverbial gun on the mantelpiece, a moral hazard and invitation to mischief that tempts Amazon executives to run a bait-and-switch con where they sell you a gadget with five features and then remotely kill-switch two of them. This is prime directive of the Darth Vader MBA: "I am altering the deal. Pray I don't alter it any further."
So many companies got their business-plan at the Darth Vader MBA. The ability to revoke features after the fact means that companies can fuck around, but never find out. Apple sold millions of tracks via iTunes with the promise of letting you stream them to any other device you owned. After a couple years of this, the company caught some heat from the record labels, so they just pushed an update that killed the feature:
https://memex.craphound.com/2004/10/30/apple-to-ipod-owners-eat-shit-and-die-updated/
That gun on the mantelpiece went off all the way back in 2004 and it turns out it was a starter-pistol. Pretty soon, everyone was getting in on the act. If you find an alert on your printer screen demanding that you install a "security update" there's a damned good chance that the "update" is designed to block you from using third-party ink cartridges in a printer that you (sorta) own:
https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2020/11/ink-stained-wretches-battle-soul-digital-freedom-taking-place-inside-your-printer
Selling your Tesla? Have fun being poor. The upgrades you spent thousands of dollars on go up in a puff of smoke the minute you trade the car into the dealer, annihilating the resale value of your car at the speed of light:
https://pluralistic.net/2022/10/23/how-to-fix-cars-by-breaking-felony-contempt-of-business-model/
Telsa has to detect the ownership transfer first. But once a product is sufficiently cloud-based, they can destroy your property from a distance without any warning or intervention on your part. That's what Adobe did last year, when it literally stole the colors from your Photoshop files, in history's SaaSiest heist caper:
https://pluralistic.net/2022/10/28/fade-to-black/#trust-the-process
And yet, when we hear about remote killswitches in the news, it's most often as part of a PR blitz for their virtues. Russia's invasion of Ukraine kicked off a new genre of these PR pieces, celebrating the fact that a John Deere dealership was able to remotely brick looted tractors that had been removed to Chechnya:
https://pluralistic.net/2022/05/08/about-those-kill-switched-ukrainian-tractors/
Today, Deere's PR minions are pitching search-and-replace versions of this story about Israeli tractors that Hamas is said to have looted, which were also remotely bricked.
But the main use of this remote killswitch isn't confounding war-looters: it's preventing farmers from fixing their own tractors without paying rent to John Deere. An even bigger omission from this narrative is the fact that John Deere is objectively Very Bad At Security, which means that the world's fleet of critical agricultural equipment is one breach away from being rendered permanently inert:
https://pluralistic.net/2021/04/23/reputation-laundry/#deere-john
There are plenty of good and honorable people working at big companies, from Adobe to Apple to Deere to Tesla to Amazon. But those people have to convince their colleagues that they should do the right thing. Those debates weigh the expected gains from scammy, immoral behavior against the expected costs.
Without DMCA 1201, Amazon would have to worry that their decision to revoke IFTTT functionality would motivate customers to seek out alternative software for their Alexas. This is a big deal: once a customer learns how to de-Amazon their Alexa, Amazon might never recapture that customer. Such a switch wouldn't have to come from a scrappy startup or a hacker's DIY solution, either. Take away DMCA 1201 and Walmart could step up, offering an alternative Alexa software stack that let you switch your purchases away from Amazon.
Money talks, bullshit walks. In any boardroom argument about whether to shift value away from customers to the company, a credible argument about how the company will suffer a net loss as a result has a better chance of prevailing than an argument that's just about the ethics of such a course of action:
https://pluralistic.net/2023/07/28/microincentives-and-enshittification/
Inevitably, these killswitches are pitched as a paternalistic tool for protecting customers. An HP rep once told me that they push deceptive security updates to brick third-party ink cartridges so that printer owners aren't tricked into printing out cherished family photos with ink that fades over time. Apple insists that its ability to push iOS updates that revoke functionality is about keeping mobile users safe â not monopolizing repair:
https://pluralistic.net/2023/09/22/vin-locking/#thought-differently
John Deere's killswitches protect you from looters. Adobe's killswitches let them add valuable functionality to their products. Tesla? Well, Tesla at least is refreshingly honest: "We have a killswitch because fuck you, that's why."
These excuses ring hollow because they conspicuously omit the possibility that you could have the benefits without the harms. Like, your tractor could come with a killswitch that you could bypass, meaning you could brick it at a distance, and still fix it yourself. Same with your phone. Software updates that take away functionality you want can be mitigated with the ability to roll back those updates â and by giving users the ability to apply part of a patch, but not the whole patch.
Cloud computing and software as a service are a choice. "Local first" computing is possible, and desirable:
https://pluralistic.net/2023/08/03/there-is-no-cloud/#only-other-peoples-computers
The cheapest rhetorical trick of the tech sector is the "indivisibility gambit" â the idea that these prix-fixe menus could never be served a la carte. Wanna talk to your friends online? Sorry there's just no way to help you do that without spying on you:
https://pluralistic.net/2022/11/08/divisibility/#technognosticism
One important argument over smart-speakers was poisoned by this false dichotomy: the debate about accessibility and IoT gadgets. Every IoT privacy or revocation scandal would provoke blanket statements from technically savvy people like, "No one should ever use one of these." The replies would then swiftly follow: "That's an ableist statement: I rely on my automation because I have a disability and I would otherwise be reliant on a caregiver or have to go without."
But the excluded middle here is: "No one should use one of these because they are killswitched. This is especially bad when a smart speaker is an assistive technology, because those applications are too important to leave up to the whims of giant companies that might brick them or revoke their features due to their own commercial imperatives, callousness, or financial straits."
Like the problem with the "bionic eyes" that Second Sight bricked wasn't that they helped visually impaired people see â it was that they couldn't be operated without the company's ongoing support and consent:
https://spectrum.ieee.org/bionic-eye-obsolete
It's perfectly possible to imagine a bionic eye whose software can be maintained by third parties, whose parts and schematics are widely available. The challenge of making this assistive technology fail gracefully isn't technical â it's commercial.
We're meant to believe that no bionic eye company could survive unless they devise their assistive technology such that it fails catastrophically if the business goes under. But it turns out that a bionic eye company can't survive even if they are allowed to do this.
Even if you believe Milton Friedman's Big Lie that a company is legally obligated to "maximize shareholder value," not even Friedman says that you are legally obligated to maximize companies' shareholder value. The fact that a company can make more money by defrauding you by revoking or bricking the things you buy from them doesn't oblige you to stand up for their right to do this.
Indeed, all of this conduct is arguably illegal, under Section 5 of the FTC Act, which prohibits "unfair and deceptive business practices":
https://pluralistic.net/2023/01/10/the-courage-to-govern/#whos-in-charge
"No one should ever use a smart speaker" lacks nuance. "Anyone who uses a smart speaker should be insulated from unilateral revocations by the manufacturer, both through legal restrictions that bind the manufacturer, and legal rights that empower others to modify our devices to help us," is a much better formulation.
It's only in the land of the Darth Vader MBA that the deal is "take it or leave it." In a good world, we should be able to take the parts that work, and throw away the parts that don't.

I rewatched Gravity Falls with my sister and holy crap being an adult and watching everything Stan goes through is insane.
Iâve been working through some stuff in therapy and like, this man has made some mistakes but definitely did not deserve what the narrative did to him.
Screws up his brothers machine on accident? Homeless at 17 and doesnât speak to his twin for 10 years. Sees his brother again when theyâre both at the end of their respective ropes and in their worst places mentally? Gets in a fight that lands his brother trapped for 30 years while he takes his death and tries to open the technical monstrosity his brother built when this man hasnât even finished high school. Gets his brother back after 30 years? Doesnât get a scrap of acknowledgement and is told to move out and leave him alone. Has spent 40 years trying to fix and atone for his mistakes? Not even a thank you and gets emotional about it such that the spell against Bill doesnât work.
Whatâs left? Oh I donât know, how about losing all of your memories and sense of self, letting the narrative boil you down to nothing more than a mistake and the only way youâre capable of rectifying it is by ceasing to be yourself, as literally as possible.
Like, Iâm sorry, but if Ford really was so unreceptive to actually talking/working through things, I think Stan had more than atoned for his mistakes. I donât think he was a fuck up or that his takeaway from everything should be that he wasnât worth it. That his sacrifice was what he owed the world for everything he did.
Because he didnât do any of it alone.
And boo fucking hoo that Ford had to shoot his brother. If their places had been reversed I doubt Stan could have done the same.
Iâm sorry, you trusted an inter dimensional demon, kept secrets because you were too prideful to ask for help or admit to your failings, and again too prideful to say thank you to your younger brother who spent 3 decades doing everything he could to get you back? Stop throwing such a tantrum and get off your high horse.
Sure Stan made mistakes, but Ford never seemed to learn from his.
Rewatching it I was actually angry at the ending, at the idea that when Stan is facing Bill heâs not even upset at the hand heâs been dealt. At the unfairness of it.
Because it was unfair.
And if I had a single gripe with the series at all I would wish for maybe one extra episode after Stan losing his memories and before getting them back. Just one single episode of Ford admitting how he hurt his brother, the role he played in the apocalypse, just 20 minutes of him coming to terms with his own flaws.
Because we as the audience know Ford isnât perfect, but I need him to acknowledge that too.
There is so much fanfiction where Stanâs life is horribly lonely or traumatic in ways the show canât cover or makes light of and I get it but also itâs clear other people relate to Stan feeling like all heâs done is make mistakes and that he deserves what heâs gone through and that is so NOT the case.
And I wish the official narrative would acknowledge that too.
#gravity falls#stanely pines#stanford pines#pines twins#grunkle ford#grunkle stan#on my rewatch stanley is my favorite character and you can pry him from my cold dead hands#no real hate about anything i love the show but like let me rant about him please#i donât believe for a second that he deserved any of it from being kicked out to losing ford to opening the rift#ford was the prideful one who believed only he knew what was best to the detriment of other characters and actively made situations worse#by keeping secrets or projecting his trauma onto dipper and mabel and sure maybe he couldnât forgive stan right away because they never#properly talked but thatâs also! on! ford! he could have reached out or tried at all instead of sitting on his high horse judging#sure stanley isnât perfect but heâs my favorite and deserved to be allowed to do more than make mistakes and pay for them

Iâve seen a fair amount of posts complaining about this arc in Frieren and⊠we are all entitled to our own opinions etc which is why I will be launching into a Defense of Frierenâs Exam Arc :) Keeping it manga spoiler free since it seems like most of these complaints are from anime-only viewers.
For me the main draw of this arc is the world building. Weâve spent all this time with Frieren and Fern as our main perspectives on magic. Because itâs Frieren, the magics weâve been hearing about have mostly been a little silly and sweet. But now weâre finding out that 1) âmageâ is largely still a combat designation, and 2) Frieren and Fern are actually incredibly jack-of-all-trades when it comes to their magic repertoire. The âmagic is visualisationâ part is starting to be really leant into and weâre seeing more humans as well who seem to specialise in one magic (steel flowers, rocks, clones, ice and waterâŠ) Itâs cool!! Itâs objectively cool! I love being able to see this range that we wouldnât have had otherwise! Also itâs fucking fantastic to see how much of a BEAST Fern really is when compared to other human mages. And she doesnât even seem that aware of it.
Coupled with that is being able to see different peopleâs philosophies toward magic. I think a lot of viewers are kind of down about the sudden huge influx of side characters who they donât really care about. But these philosophiesâLandâs maximum wait-and-watch, Wirbel and Ubelâs vastly different approaches to killingâkeep expanding the world and highlighting Frieren and Fernâs own perspectives. Itâs soooo good seeing them react to situations not of their own making and people not of their own kind.
We get to see human society that isnât a village in the middle of nowhere! We get to see Frieren being forced to socialise! We get to see Fern away from her emotional support elf! We get to see how society has changed since the demon king was defeated! I love that Himmel and co ushered in an era of peace, which it is, and yet the world is still full of conflicts. Truly the story continues after the hero is finished.
To address a few specific complaints Iâve seen brought up:
Frieren isnât about all these nonstop shounen fights.
Agreed! Which is why itâs cool as hell that Frierenâs main badass shounen strategy is âsit very still for 10 hoursâ. That aside? There actually hasnât been much actual fighting. You could probably count up the minutes in which actual spells are being cast and itâll be something like 2 minutes max in the latest ep20. And thatâs because itâs not about who beats who, itâs about the philosophies, the worldbuilding, the ways of thinking about magic. This is not a power-measuring contest, much as Genau would like to make it. And the random lucky draw-ness of the Stilles only plays further into that. It is possible to pass this exam without coming into conflict with others, and certainly without battles to the death. It hasnât ever been about the shounen fights.
The good part of the show was about the delicate melancholy and thatâs totally missing here.
I agree that itâs one of the strong points. But the thing with the melancholy is that it only works when juxtaposed against other moments. A story thatâs composed of a bunch of unlinked wistful slice-of-life episodes will eventually fall apart because it has no momentum, no driving force. And ten years to Ende is too long to go without at least some conflict. Also, again, ten-hour bird meditation session?
Anyway, thereâs melancholy, but how sad it would be if there was nothing but introspection and wistfulness. Frieren is bringing the memories of Himmel forward with her into the future. That means she has to be moving forward, forging new relationships with unrelated people, going into situations that she hasnât been in before. A Frieren stuck in the past would be against the themes of the show, of remembering and yet moving on.
Why should I care about them spending ages trying to catch a bird?
You donât like Stille? đ€ fweet?
Actually I care lots about this funky thing. Indestructible and goes supersonic fast. Thatâs fucking hilarious. Bird that simply cannot be contained. Genau is a dick for setting up this kind of exam when, Your Honour, my client Stille does not deserve to be imprisoned.
Too many irrelevant side characters who itâs hard to care about, and theyâre gonna be thrown away at the end anyway.
Again, itâs the worldbuilding. And also, mild spoilers for stuff that wonât be covered in the anime, but at least one of these side characters does come back and we get more delicious main character development as a result. Though frankly many of these characters are deeply compelling and interesting to me so I donât rly get this complaint. Give me more Lawine.
Whereâs Himmel? What do these exams have to do with the hero party? Frieren is good because of the links to the past.
Frieren is good because of the links to the past, which affect how Frieren responds to the present. The whole point of Frieren is that Frierenâs life continues. And through her new experiences, she comes to understand and reconnect to the emotions she didnât realise she felt about her past. I donât care what Himmel would think of the mage exams, I care what Frieren thinks of them now. And the answer is that she doesnât really give a damn but sheâs in here anyway because Fern strongarmed her into it, and then she was forced to adopt two more kids along the way, and all of that is something she never would have done if she was still hermiting in the Central Lands. Somehow we are still getting Himmel flashbacks anyway? So? Heâs still haunting the narrative guys. Just because Frieren isnât saying âthatâs what Hero Himmel would doâ out loud in these circumstances doesnât mean his ghost isnât here.
Even so, Frieren clearly recognises the name Serie. Do not fear. There is going to be more about links to the past.
I miss Stark.
Fair enough. Itâs okay, heâs just on vacation rn. Having an appy juice.
Itâs taking too long. The arc is too slow.
Itâs only been three episodes⊠Iâve seen people going âitâs already been three episodes!â but what? Really? Is that considered an excessive amount of time now?? Given the amount of story covered I think itâs quite reasonable? Thereâs still 8 episodes to go in which we cover the remaining exam stages. Have some patience like Frieren. The payoffs are being set up; theyâll resolve before the end of the mage exam arc. In the meantime, letâs enjoy theorising about the soft magic system and hollering for full auto Fern.

It has been 10 years since you last saw his face. For 10 whole years, you have been left wondering if you could have been anything more.
Well, that wasn't entirely true. You've seen his face on your FYP from time to time while scrolling through your favorite social media apps. Its like your phone loved to torture you.
However, you couldn't bear to stare for longer than a minute. You couldn't let those feelings you once shared come back.
Keeho left you. He left you with nothing more than a letter in the mail.
Dear Y/N,
I hope this letter finds you well. Iâve been struggling to find the right words, but I know itâs time to be honest about whatâs been weighing on my heart.
Youâve been my rock, my confidante, and my best friend. The time weâve spent together has been nothing short of incredible, filled with memories that I will cherish forever. But as much as it pains me to say this, I have to be truthful about the future.
You know a bit about how much Iâve always dreamed of pursuing a job in the music industry, and now that opportunity has finally come. Moving to Korea is a chance to follow my dreams, connect with my past, and grow in ways Iâve always hoped for. Itâs an opportunity I canât pass up, but itâs also one that takes me far away from you.
This decision hasnât been easy. Iâve spent countless nights thinking about us and what this move means for our relationship. The distance, the time apartâitâs something Iâm not sure we can overcome without causing each other more pain and heartache. We both deserve to be happy and to fully embrace our futures, even if that means being apart.
You have been such a significant part of my life, and I will always be grateful for the love and support youâve given me. I hope you understand that this decision is not about us lacking love or commitment, but about me needing to take this step for myself.
I believe that both of us deserve the chance to pursue our dreams and live our lives to the fullest. I hope that, in time, you can see this as a new beginning for both of us rather than an end.
I wish you all the happiness and success in the world. You are an amazing person, and I know you will go on to do incredible things. Thank you for everything youâve brought into my life and for the memories weâve made together.
Please take care of yourself, and remember that you will always have a special place in my heart.
With all my love,
Stephen
The words were still burned in your memory; you read the letter for weeks on end. You tried to contact him in every way possible, but your messages never seemed to be delivered, let alone even read.
That was until you realized you spent your entire summer before college sulking over a man who left you on a whim, the same man who you thought was going to be your high school sweetheart for the rest of eternity. You knew you shouldn't have let your hopes for the relationship develop as far as they did.
From then on, you decided to grow up and leave menâmore like boysâin the past. You focused on your studies, climbed higher and higher in your line of work, and created a stable life for yourself and, of course, your pets.
However, it all seemed to feel like it was all crumbling down when you got a message from a very old group chat after you sat down to watch your favorite show.
"Class of ----, 10 year reunion!"
Of course, the thought of him was the first to come to mind.
Oh, how you wish you had outgrown the teenage heartbreak. It seems only a few things ever change.
There were plenty of random numbers in the chat, but in the back of your mind, you hoped that one of them might be his.
Days passed, and time drew closer to the large reunion. The world had seemed to slow down as your mind was clouded with too many conflicting emotions to even count.
You didn't know what to wear. You didn't know what to say. You didn't know what to do because, god forbid, Keeho actually showed up to this event. For all you knew, he was still in Korea, living out his idol dreams. It left a bitter taste in your mouth.
As the night on the fated day rolled around, you made your way to the bar your former classmates rented out for the night. Let's just say you guys raised a lot of money back then.
Your dress was black and fitted. It had off the shoulder straps with a slit on the right side showing off your admirable figure (you all are beautiful <3).
Squeals filled the large open area as you walked through the door. Old faces surrounded you as you all shared laughs and smiles together.
On the other hand, you noticed your own eyes straying from those of your old friends. You were searching for somebody.
A small sigh left your lips when you didn't see his face. Was it disappointment? Was it relief? You didn't even know yourself. What you did know was that you needed some drinks while catching up with the girls.
The night went on; it was almost, if not past midnight. You shared laughs, smiles, and even tears while listening to everyone and their stories. Oh, how you would love it if your life were ever that interesting.
That's when you heard someone behind you.
"Y/N?" it said.
You froze in place.
You recognized the voice. Maybe it was just your imagination. Maybe if you ignore it, it will go away.
So you continued to listen to the girls talk, but you soon realized they all stopped to stare at whatever was behind you.
"Y/N, please."
You stood straight up, gathering your belongings while getting ready to walk right out the door. You weren't ready for this. Not yet. But how many more years did you need?
A firm hand grabbed your arm and stopped you from walking any further. You froze yet again, and the hand slowly turned you around.
You were now face-to-face with nobody other than the man himself, Keeho.
His hair was a deep black, just as you always remembered it. His outfit was all black, coincidentally matching your own. A pair of glasses rested on his nose, complimenting his features nicely. But his eyes? They looked concerned.
You could've sworn you noticed a little blush appear on his face after he noticed you checking him out up and down.
You felt like melting into a puddle on the floor right then and there, but not because of the butterflies in your stomach, but because of embarrassment.
"Please, let's just talk." He pleaded yet again.
You were not having any of it. You could feel the anger bubble up inside of you, but you did not want to do anything you would regret, at least not yet. The alcohol in your body may make you think differently later.
"Talk about what, Keeho?" You made sure the venom leaked from your teeth when you spoke his name.
He flinched. "About us, Y/N. I've missed you so much."
"There is no US," you spat before thinking, "We haven't been together for 10 years, and this is how you say hello?"
Keeho's eyes widened. "Wha-what do you mean?" he stuttered in disbelief.
You couldn't help but laugh. There is no way this man is standing here acting like the victim in this situation.
"Why are you laughing?!" He cried out despritley. Everyone in the whole bar was easily staring at you both now.
You're not a monster. You could see the hurt and betrayal in his eyes. You knew something wasn't right, and you knew you needed to listen to him talk.
"Okay, I'm sorry," you said in a hushed voice, trying to calm the man down in front of you with a deep breath of your own. "Let's talk, but not here; come on." You grabbed his sleeve, pulling him out of the bar.
You didn't bear your farewells. That was the least important thing on your mind in this moment. You were focused on getting the truth. What exactly did Keeho mean?
Rain came down suddenly as a flash of light flew through the sky.
'Just great,' you thought.
"Y/N..." Keeho whispered from behind.
You stopped tugging on this jacket to turn around. Unexpectedly, you were met with sad and pleading eyes. Ones that threatened to spill with tears as the rain rolled down his faceâhis goddamn pretty face.
"Kee..' the nickname slid off your tongue just like it did many years ago. 'I promise to listen, and I'm sorry I was irrational. Let's get back to my place and we can talk, okay?"
All he could do was nod before taking your hand in his and taking you to his car. He knew you were too tipsy to drive safely yourself, but you couldn't help the faint blush that appeared on your face at the contact.
The car ride was silent. His eyes seemed lazzer focused on the road while you couldn't help but steal glances his way every other second.
You mumbled a few directions to your house. Your head was pounding, whether from the few drinks or the fact that so much had happened all at once.
The last thing you expected was to be in Keeho's car while he drove you back to your place. But wasn't this what you wished for deep down?
The breaks slightly screeched to a stop as he pulled into your driveway.
"Wait," he said before jumping out of the car to open the door for you.
He grabbed your hand as he helped you out of the low car.
"Still a gentleman, I see."
He chuckled a little. but his mind still seemed to be elsewhere.
As you unlocked the door and let both of you in, he immediately led you to the couch. Sitting you down, Keeho then ventured to go find you a glass of water.
Handing you the cup, he spoke, "Y/N, where have you been?" He paused. You were taken aback. "I've tried contacting you a countless number of times, and all I've gotten was radio silence. I didn't even expect you to still be in our old town."
You took his words in, and they hit you hard. However, you knew you had to be mature about the situation and talk out whatever misunderstanding you had.
"Keeho, I haven't heard a thing from you since the day you randomly up and left." You spoke after taking a sip from the glass of water. You tried to gather your thoughts to the best of your ability.
"I know it was sudden, and I still regret leaving so quickly. I just don't understand how you've heard nothing from me this whole time." He paused to think. "I've tried to call, text, and even write letters; I swear Y/N. I just don't understa-" He cut himself off.
You could tell something clicked inside his mind once his hands clutched together and his eyes became glossy.
"What is it, Kee? I don't understand this whole thing either." You said softly as you reached out to hold his tense hands.
"I-I don't know for certain... I think my company is behind all of this. It explains why they had me get a brand new phone and phone number. They also asked a lot about my romantic life and your basic information. Oh my god, I bet they probably blocked your number in my phone before I even got it." He looked up from his spot on the floor as he was taking everything in himself, his eyes making contact with yours. "I am so sorry, Y/N. I-I never meant for any of this to happen I-"
"It's okay." You cut him off.
You couldn't believe what you were saying. How could this be okay? This man has left you basically broken and helpless for a decade, and in less than an hour you already forgave him.
On the other hand, you could tell he was hurting the same as you.
"No, no," He felt conflicted, "I have to make it up to you. I've missed you so much, and I hope you've missed me too. Please let me show you how much I still love you."

Hello, Iâve been unable to watch the NYCC panel but I see everywhere that is was awful and weird?!?! What actually happened ? Could you make a little recap for people like me who didnât get to see it? Thank you!
I'll try my best âïž this is just the impression I got though (and sorry this got long lmao)
it was awkward because they weren't allowed to talk about ofmd, which made the whole thing seem more and more ridiculous as it went on. in addition, they had to do a sort of game where they were asked questions like "who is the most likely to do [x]" and then write a name on a board and reveal it at the same time. this could've been fine for maybe 10 minutes but they had them do it for the whole hour.
the issues with this game were that 1) the questions were very "generic corporate ice breaker questions", 2) they spent a lot of time in silence writing down, and 3) when a question finally did lead to stories or conversation, it was quickly shut down in order to move on to the next boring question and writing in silence.
they could've asked them about non-struck work (Rhys even brought up the books he's written several times and it wasn't followed up on), they could've collected and vetted fan questions beforehand, they could've just let them talk idk, they could've found a more fun game or ditched the boards (one of my fav moments was Rhys saying something like "I have a mic, why do I have to write it down?" honestly this would've made it 25% less boring lmao).
adding to that, there were sound issues meaning that Con and Rhys couldn't hear what was going on a lot of the time. Rhys said it again and again and nothing was done about it.
you could just tell how frustrated they all were and what this panel could have been if not for the shitty studios refusing a fair deal for the actors. I think the cast did what they could, and there were some sweet and funny moments. but it was clear that Rhys was pissed about not being able to talk about what they all wanted to talk about (I felt bad for everyone but especially for him).
they did a whole "ha ha we were all in New Zealand at the same time what a coincidence" thing and Rhys said that (paraphrased) if only they could be paid fairly, they could create something great with all the talent in the room, going off on the studios for a bit. it was honestly a bit of a relief for someone to voice it (to me, it felt like someone had to say something lmao and he did).
in the end they got a question about fantasy worlds. Rhys said he already lived in a fantasy world in his head and it was nice, though this was one of the odder moments. Matt and Nathan basically agreed and said it was all very weird (in different words). Rhys then said fantasy worlds are important because the real world is shit right now and there's no denying it; that in fantasy worlds we can all love each other and use kindness; and it's important to keep creating and believing in them until the real world becomes like that too.
and then he said "goodnight" (= "fuck this shit I'm out"), got up, put on his sunglasses, and started beat-boxing and rapping saying "why can't we talk about the show". their time had run out anyway, he said it had certainly been an experience, that he couldn't hear much of what was going on, and they all thanked the audience and it ended âïž
anyway this is just my take and I hope SAG-AFTRA get a fair deal soon so the cast can celebrate the show with us like they so clearly want to. I also hope Matthew Maher does more panels after this (it was his first I think!) despite it being such a weird experience because he was great to watch!! anyway they're all happily doing photo ops and autographs now I guess đ€ž
(if you want to watch there is a way)

hello iz ik it's such a cliche question and idk if you've already answered that but- how do you learnt drawing humans??? like everyone says practice but i don't know how and i struggle so much :( thanks already for answering!! i really really love your art
hi!
the very regulated, academic, objectively correct bs answer: learn the fundamentals, study and practice!
the unhinged, off-the-counter, cool uncle from your dad's side of the family answer:
Imo, the best way to learn how to draw on your own is to reference and study other people's art. There is no need for you to reinvent the wheel, and if you are a beginner and have no idea what you're doing, tackling multiple fundamentals at once can overwhelm and demotivate you quite a lot. So, for your morale and motivation, I think it is totally okay to just observe multiple artworks from multiple artists and engage with them critically ( * N.B. : artistS - plural; by referencing multiple works, you lower the risk of accidentally becoming a copycat or locking yourself into an art style that will never be as good as the original because it was not yours)
What I mean by critically engaging with an artwork is to analyze how they're tackling difficult body parts that you struggle with. For example, let's say you can't/don't know how to draw legs. Look at a picture of a real human leg, observe how someone else has simplified that leg form and anatomy, and then try to recreate it. Don't just copy their linework 1 to 1. That is not the point. Do it your own way, incorporate aspects of others' art that you like, and make them yours. You should have 5++ references of that leg from 5++ different artists. There are maany people out there who post their studies online, raw sketches or structural drawings (TB Choi comes to mind for example). Look for people like them, and if you can't find someone, then Pinterest is your bff. When learning how to draw, hunting the internet for how people sketch >>> rendered art. If speedpaints are more your thing, then youtube has you covered. Personally, I've learned more from a 20 min speedpaint with nightcore bgm and zero annotations from some guy that doesnt even speak english that has 300 views than I've learned from 10 min long art tutorials from fluent english speakers with 1 mil views. At the end of the day, we can yap and theorise as much as we want, but it's the act of drawing that brings results and seeing how other people draw is sometimes worth a thousand words.
> References in general also help a lot. I can't tell you how many times I was too lazy to look something up and spent 14235 hours trying to draw it off the top of my head only to have it done in 10 minutes once I finally gave in and pulled up a reference. So yeah, always use references. Don't be like me this is actually a bad habit
Okay, but how to /use/ that reference if you're a beginner? Very simple: draw on top of it ( *Do Not trace the outlines, that's pointless if you actually want to learn something). Draw guidelines over the body parts, deconstruct and simplify the ref into just boxes and lines ( always think in 3D ). This will help a lot with keeping the proportions in check. You can start by drawing those guidelines first and then get into details. Kinda like in sculpture: you start with a big block of a rock, and then you slowly carve and build form and then detail. The more you draw, the less you will need those guidelines as you get a feeling for the proportions yourself and will no longer need this step.
Once you become more confident in your skills or have a "sense" for drawing and you are in too deep to just give up after hitting your first wall, then you can tackle the scary intimidating stuff that is art fundamentals ( or you can do them simultaneously, all I'm trying to say is to never forget that you are not the only drawer in the world; looking in your neighbor's yard is totally okay within the reasons of common sense ). You don't have to raise and milk a cow it to make butter, you can just buy it from the store. If you want to bake a cake, a beginner chef will use store-bought cake mix because they have no idea how to cook. Once they learn the science behind baking (because it really is a science) they will buy their own ingredients and then improve or personalize the cake with better, well-researched ingredients, they will add their own twist, flavours, adjust the macros, perfect the technique and so on.
This is how I've personally learned how to draw by myself bc I'm self-taught and didn't care for formalities as it's just a hobby of mine that I do for fun. If you want proper advice you should probably listen to more qualified people but I can only preach what I practice.. Anywayssss hope it helped!!
#Believe it or not I've initially written out this super long answer but I realized it was too much and went off tangent#so this is a condensed version#i should tag art-related asks so you can find them better....#ok new art tips slash disscussion tag#ask iztea: art talk#ask iztea#i don't know why you'd ask me of all people for tips but#here are my two cents#i'm always hesitant with these things#i mainly focus on vibes and concept not accuracy

Omg could you possibly write about Wally finding Dick and his S/O on tiktok and showing it to the other members of the team?
Simping Hours
Dick Grayson x plus size reader
The Titans find Dickâs TikTok and are both intrigued and disgusted.
Warnings: fluff, Dick is a goddamn simp, swearing
WC: 822
Minors DNI
It was surprising that they hadnât found it earlier, especially considering the sheer amount of surveillance technology in the Titans Tower alone. And as soon as Dick walked into the main meeting room and was met with 10 pairs of eyes, each in various stages of grief except for Wally who looked like he was about to combust with laughter, Dick knew that they knew.
âI will field one minute for questions.â He stated simply, placing his tablet at the end of the conference table and bracing his hands on the glass. The room exploded into a fit of questions but Wally was most definitely the loudest.
âHow in the ever loving fuck, did she convince the great Nightwing, leader of the Teen Titans, Batmanâs legacy, and the first Robin to make a TikTok page where he pretends to fawn over her?âÂ
âPretend to fawn over my very lovely, super sexy, kindest in the world, most incredible girlfriend ever?â Dick was deeply offended on your behalf, especially since the page was his idea in the first place.
ââââââ
Like the start of most Saturdays, Dick was laying on top of you, half of his face squished into your, as he put it, âabsolutely voluptuousâ chest, as he scrolled through TikTok. Having been trapped under him, you watched him watch videos, a very entertaining pastime. Your fingers carded through his silky hair, still damp from his morning shower.
Haley was on your left side, cold snout pressed into your shoulder as she slept in the crook of your arm. âYou know, you could be a TikTok star.â His voice was gravely, still laced with sleep. His chin propped up against your sternum, letting you look into this big blues you loved so much.
âCould I now?â You teased, moving your hand from his hair to his jaw. He nuzzled into your touch much like Haley did.
âYeah, âs cause youâre so pretty. People would watch anything you do.âÂ
âI could say the same thing about you, handsome.â He smiled dopey at you. Suddenly, his face lit up and his eyes sparkled with an idea.
âWe should do it!â
âDo what?â
With a dramatic sigh, like he was aggravated at you, Dick rolled away and like a true gymnast, sprung to his feet. âMake a coupleâs TikTok page obviously!â
Carefully sitting up without disturbing your still sleeping puppy, you eyed your boyfriend. âYes obviously.â He pointed a finger at you.
âI donât appreciate the sarcasm from you.â Quickly, he grabbed your hand and yanked you up, causing you to stumble and fall into his hard chest with a grunt. But there was no slowing him down, without missing a beat, he threw you over his shoulder and scooped up his phone with his other hand.Â
You bounced with each step he took, giggles being forced from your lungs as your limp body jerked against him. âD-i-i-i-ck!â You cried out but it did no more than spur him on even more.
âH-o-o-o-ney!â He retorted, deliberately jumping up and down to force more laughter from your already spent lungs as he entered the small living room of your apartment. âNow!â He threw you, well more like carefully placed you down with a sloppy kiss to your cheek, onto the couch. âLetâs get this party started!â
ââââââ
There were hundreds of videos on the page, ranging from Dick watching you put on makeup with literal heart eyes, to him cataloging a surprise trip for your anniversary. There was even one video, that admittedly was his favourite, where you and Haley wore matching Christmas sweaters and then gifted him with his own. He may or may not have cried a little bit when that happened.
Dickâs gaze scanned over his team before he met Wallyâs eyes. âThe page was my idea, I thought it was cute. And according to our 2 million followers, the world also thinks weâre cute.â He shrugged nonchalantly, like it was the most obvious thing ever.Â
âBut-but why?â It was Konner that spoke up then, his face still twisted with an expression of confusion and disbelief.
But Dick didnât have a chance to answer before Kori took the opportunity to speak. âI believe it is a way for the two of them to share their love that they have for each other with the world. And I agree, they are quite⊠adorable.â Nightwing gave the princess a kind smile.
âExactly, and we have a lot of fun doing it. Aaaaand, thatâs minute over so can we please get back to work?â There was a brief shout of rebuttal but it was quickly silenced by Kaldur'ahm clapping a palm over Wallyâs mouth and with a nod to Dick, the meeting continued.
But as the meeting came to an end and everyone was slowly filtering out, Dick happened a glance at his phone and his heart stopped.
Jaybird - I just found something very interesting on TikTok.
Well, fuck.

Yesterday's Lie, Today's Truth, Tomorrow's Promise chapter 2 (beta)
Heeey, y'all remember that Vee fic I've been toiling away at? I finally, just now, five minutes ago, got the second chapter done. Sorta, anyway. This bad boy ended up being just over 10 000 words long... and it was originally supposed to be longer, but I decided to split it into two.
I havenÀt run this through any spellcheck or grammar check, and I mgiht go back to change some stuff before fnal publication, but I'm probabaly not gonna change too much plot-wise. It took me a long time to get it into a state that works, and I think I did a decent job.
I am planning on actually putting this story up on AO3, but I wanna make sure to have at least the first three chapters done and ready before that. The next chapter should hopefully not be as long as this one.
For now... enjoy!
(oh, and I actually settled on a title!)
(also, i just realized that copy-n-paste didn't copy-n-paste any of the italics... meh, it's 01:00 at night right now and I need my beatuy sleep)
xxXXxx
Lamp Entertainment presentsâŠ
The night was growing old, but Masha was wide awake. Lying in Luzâ bed, looking up at the glow-in-the-dark stars glued to the bunk above. They were tired, dead tired, but thoughts buzzed around their head like ten million fireflies, keeping them awake.
Not only were shapeshifters, basilisks, witches, magic, demons, and other worlds real, but shapeshifting basilisks demons from another world filled with magic and witches were real. Masha had spent most of summer sharing a bunk bed with one, just as they were doing now. It was a lot to take in.
Oh, and the story about the Wittebane brothers meeting a witch? It was true. The brothers had met a real witch, a witch that they had followed back to the Demon Realm, the world of demons and witches. Not only that, but old Philip Wittebane was still alive and kicking, turned into a monster and spending the last four centuries working on a plan to exterminate all witches.
That evil, wicked man was the reason Vee was alive. Vee had been⊠brief in talking about her origins. Masha knew better than to pry too much, and thank Goddess Marco and Samuel did too. Just telling them about her true identity had obviously been very difficult for her, and if there were things she wasnât ready to tell them yet, then they shouldnât pressure her.
Even so, what she did tell them did not paint a pretty picture.
âMy name, itâs Vee as in V, as in âfive,ââ she had explained, holding up two fingers forming a V. Her voice trembled and her gaze lowered, looking at something far, far away from the comfort and safety of her new home. She took a deep, unsteady breath before speaking again. âI⊠am number five. Lab animal number five.â
And all of the sudden it made so much sense why âLuzâ had spent the first few weeks of camp jumping at every sudden sound and always looking over her shoulder. Why she would always sneak out of bed when she thought everyone was sleeping to make sure the door wasnât locked.
It made Mashaâs blood boil. Philip Wittebane better never show his face in Gravesfield again, or so help themâŠ
But⊠something else troubled on Mashaâs mind. They reached down on the floor, grabbing the vaguely clothes-shaped pile of fabric that was their discarded costume. The deck of cards was still in the pocket where they left them, still in the same order. The first three cards were still The Two-Headed Snake, The Light, and The Red String.
They shuffled the deck thoroughly and drew the first three cards again.
The Light. The Red String. The Two-Headed Snake.
What was the chances of drawing the exact same three cards? One in a million?
Maybe there was still some magic in themâŠ
Eventually, Masha drifted off to a sleep filled with dreams they couldnât remember in the morning.
Chapter 2: For the Future (that we canât see)
Vee woke up early, before the others. Well, it wasnât that early, it was just past eight in the morning. But considering the late night, it felt early even as the sun shone through the window.
She spent some time just coiled up in bed, enjoying the comfortable warmth under her two blankets. She thought if going back to sleep, but eventually convinced herself that it was time to rise and shine.
The others were still asleep, so Vee climbed down from her bunk as quietly as she could. Easier said than done when you had a thick tail instead of two nimble legs. Somehow, she made it down without waking anyone up, though that might have had more to do with the fact that her old cabin mates were exhausted after yesterday.
She noticed a deck of Hexas Holdâem cards lying on the floor. She recalled Masha playing with a deck on the day Luz contacted her from the Demon Realm. Vee couldnât smell any magic left in them, which meant it was probably the same deck. They mustâve fallen out of Mashaâs pocket. She gathered them and put them in a neat stack next to their costume.
She slithered silently out the room, past Samuel and Marco in the guest beds that used to belong to Willow and Amity. The whole thing reminded her of summer camp. Sheâd often wake up before her cabin mates then too, often sneaking out to enjoy the early morning sun. Masha had called camp prison, but as far as Vee was concerned, her first true sense of freedom had come from that place.
Making it down the stairs was one of those things that was a lot more uncomfortable with a tail than it was with a pair of legs, but Vee decided to stay in her true form for a bit longer. For the longest time, even before she made the decision to tell them, there had been an insistent voice in her head telling her that her friends would find her true form repulsive. It was nice to learn that wasnât the case.
Oh stars, she could barely believe it! She had told them! She really had told them! Even though the thought had terrified her, she had still gone through with it. And it worked out, they didnât hate her, they didnât resent her for deceiving them.
There were some things she hadnât told them. Things she had only ever told Camila, late one night after she woke up screaming from a nightmare. She wanted the truth to be a happy thing, not marred too much by what had been.
Vee was determined to move beyond her past pain. At times, the darkness made itself known at the back of her head, deep within her lizard brain. But she was getting better and better at pushing back. She had optimism for the future.
First things first though. She needed to call Camilaâs work to let them know she was going to need a few days off. Vee, being naturally paranoid and a born liar, had already fleshed out a halfway decent story.
It took some convincing and a little bit of improv, but Vee was eventually (imitating Camilaâs voice, of course) able to get Camilaâs sudden leave accepted.
Once that was done with, Vee began cleaning up the mess in the living room while contemplating what to do with Luz. Should she take on her appearance and go to school as her again? Or should she call the school and inform Luz wouldnât be coming for a few days? Both alternatives had its ups and downs. On one hand, Vee actually did like school and learning about the Human Realm. And Luzâ grades really did not need to get any worse. On the other hand, keeping up the deception would add another element of complication. Vee was good, but was she that good?
She mulled over it while cleaning up until she heard movement coming from upstairs. She turned to her friends groggily making their way down the stairs.
âGood morning!â she said cheerfully.
âWowâŠâ Samuel whispered. âI was halfway convinced I was dreamt up everything,â he said a little louder.
âNot me, cause Iâm not that creative,â Marco said.
âI gotta say, I think it would make for a pretty good story,â Samuel continued. âA demon fleeing from an evil emperor ends up in the world of the humans, accidentally taking the place of a young girl headed for summer camp⊠yeah, thatâs a good story. Maybe I should write a book about it.â
âDonât you have like fifty-eleven different fanfics youâre already writing?â Masha teased him. Samuel blushed.
âI do finish some of my fanfics,â he said defensively. âUnlike my thirteenth favorite fanfic writer, The Lampman. That guy couldnât finish a fanfic if his life depended on it. â
âI donât know who that is, but he sounds like a talentless hack,â Marco said.
âIâm sure heâs not that bad,â Vee said. âAnyway, here I am, very much real. By which I mean âreal-ly hungry.â Anyone else want breakfast? Iâm starving!â
The others agreed that breakfast would be nice. Vee lead them into the kitchen and began fixing some food. One thing the other Cabin 7 members had noticed about âLuzâ was that the way sheâd scarf down her food at every meal like she had never eaten before. Which, based on what they now knew of Veeâs past, sadly made a lot of sense. Though that was not the only thing they had noticed about Luz â eating habits.
âYou used to choke on your food a lot,â Masha observed. They were absentmindedly playing with the deck of Hexas Holdâem cards. âWas that because you usually swallow your food whole?â
âYeah, pretty much,â Vee confirmed while frying up some eggs. âI do have teeth to chew with if I have to, but I usually donât. Human throats are a lot less flexible than basilisks and I wasnât used to it.â To demonstrate what she meant, she took an apple lying on the counter and swallowed it whole, making her throat bulge outward.
âNot gonna lie,â Marco said. âThat was a kinda gross.â
âYou should see how I eat eggs then,â Vee chuckled. âThe difficult part is spitting the shell out in one piece.â
âTh-thanks, but I think weâll skip that one,â Samuel quickly interjected. He looked contemplative for a moment. âDo you have⊠is it poison or venom? I can never remember the difference.â
âIf I bite you and you die, Iâm venomous,â Vee explained. âBut if you bite me and you die, then Iâm poisonous. And no, I donât have venom. Donât know if Iâm poisonous though. I might be.â
âWhat if I bite myself and I die?â Marco asked. âWhat does that make me then?â
âStupid,â Masha said, prompting a good group laugh.
âNo new information there,â Marco said between giggles.
The eggs done, the gang sat down at the table. Sitting on chairs designed for human creatures with things like âlegsâ and âbuttsâ was yet another thing that was a bit awkward for Vee. Sheâd usually just stand at the table, but she decided to sit down this time. Before she sat down, she grabbed a special jar from one of the cabinets.
It had a homemade label, saying in neat handwriting that it was âFor Vee only.â A second pencil had added a small face making a sick face, to which the first pencil responded that âI told you so.â
Her friends watched with interest as she took four slices of bread and spread thick layers of jarâs contents on them. It looked like some chocolate spread, but with strange lumps in it.
âWhat is that?â Masha asked finally. âIs it some kind of special basilisk food?â
âUh⊠kinda?â Vee hesitated. âItâs nutella, with protein powder and, um⊠wood chips and sand.â
This was met with wide stares.
âWood chips⊠and sand?â Samuel asked, as if to make sure he heard it right.
âItâs good for my digestion,â Vee said with a little shrug. âIt was either that, or I keep chewing on twigs I found on the ground. Camila thinks I need a lot of protein, so thatâs what the protein powderâs for.â
âAnd the nutellaâŠ?â Masha asked.
âOh, thatâs for taste,â Vee said. Deciding that was enough explanation, she took one the fried eggs and sandwiched it between two bread slices slathered in the cursed nutella. âI think Demon Realm stomachs are just tougher than human stomachs,â Vee said between bites of her sandwich. âLuz told me there was a bunch of foods she couldnât eat in the Demon Realm, but the others didnât seem to have any problems with anything from here. Well, except for garlic.â
âWhat, they couldnât eat garlic?â Masha asked in-between bites of their own sandwich. âLike vampires?â
âPrecisely,â Vee said with a nod.
âWait, really?â Masha exclaimed, nearly choking on their food. âVampires are real? And they canât stand garlic? That partâs true!?â
âYes,â Vee said, smiling at the funny face Masha was making.
âOh, so thatâs why you had cloves of garlic next to your bed,â Marco said and nodded a little. âItâs to keep the vampires away.â
âKinda. There arenât any vampires in Gravesfield (I hope), but it makes me feel safer to sleep with it,â Vee explained. âHunter said that basilisks and vampires used to be natural enemies, since, well⊠we both kinda feed on witches⊠Garlic is deadly to vampires, and since a lot of witches have vampire ancestry, a lot of them have inherited a garlic allergy.â Vee smiled at a memory. âWillowâs and Gusâ werenât that bad, but Amityâs was really bad. Luz was devastated, because one piece of garlic bread meant no more kisses for the day.â
That image garnered a few laughs.
âI canât wait for you guys to meet Luz, the real Luz,â Vee said. âSheâs the coolest! Seh fights Belos and doesnât afraid of anything.â
âWell, I think youâre pretty cool,â Masha said. They reached out to hold Veeâs hand, soft skin meeting rough scales. âMy whole life Iâve been looking for signs of the supernatural, for ghosts or demons or what have you⊠but I never ever dreamed of meeting, much less becoming friends with a living, breathing demon!â
Samuel put a hand on Veeâs shoulder.
âAnd Iâm really happy you felt comfortable enough to tell us your secret,â he said. âI know it couldnât have been easy. Iâm honored you felt you could trust us that much, and I promise you wonât regret it.â
Marco put his hand on Veeâs other shoulder.
âI used to think Cabin 7 was the coolest cabin in Connecticut,â he said. âNow I know weâre the coolest in the whole world. I mean, who else can say they have a freakinâ shapeshifter as a friend?
âAw, you guysâŠâ Ve was struggled to hold back tears. She lost that battle, and big warm tears started rolling don her cheeks. âIâm sorry I didnât tell you sooner,â she sobbed. âI wanted to, but I never dared.â
Masha, Samuel, and Marco acted in unison, standing up to embrace Vee in a big group hug.
âHey, itâs okay, I know what thatâs like,â Masha reassured her. âKeeping a part of yourself secret even to those that love you⊠it eats away at you. It took me forever to come out to my parents, even though I knew theyâd accept me for who I am⊠anxietyâs a bitch.â
âTh-thanks,â Vee said. She managed to wriggle one arm free to wipe the tears off her face. âYou guys really are the best.â
They stood huddled together for a minute, until Vee felt her love of hugs starting to give way to her fear of being restrained.
âIâm fine, I promise,â she said, trying to wriggle free of the group hug. âIâm just so happy is all.â
Eventually, the Cabin 7 crew relented with their physical affection and let her go. They had breakfast to finish after all.
The three humans watched with equal amounts fascination and disgust as Vee ate an entire banana, without peeling it. âThe shell doesnât taste that good, but hey, itâs the inside that counts, right?â she said. And really, who could argue with logic like that?
Her friends had a few more questions about her biology yet.
âDo you shed your skin like a snake?â Samuel asked while helping to gather the dishes.
âUh-huh,â Vee hummed, putting the dishes in the sink. She decided to be lazy and do them later. âI actually shed not too long ago. The old skinâs in a box in the basement, if you wanna see it.â
ââŠthatâs a hard pass for me bro,â Marco said. âWhy would you even keep it?â
âWhat were we supposed to do, throw it out in the garbage?â Vee asked rhetorically. âYou saw how Jacob acted yesterday. After Camila locked him in his own cage, he hasnât dared to go after us directly. But I donât think heâs above digging through the trash to find proof thereâs a demon living here. As is, everyone thinks heâs a raving lunatic conspiracy nut. Which, to be fair, he is, he just happened to stumble onto the truth this one time.â
The three friends nodded, for the first time realizing just what it would mean if Jacob actually did get proof of demon presence in Gravesfield. The town had a history of witch hunting already, whoâs to say the people of today wouldnât continue the tradition should they learn of Veeâs presence? Not to mention what the government might do to get their hands on an interdimensional traveler.
âIt mustâve been incredibly hard for you,â Masha said. They were still playing with the deck of Hexas Holdâem cards, shuffling them and drawing the first three cards. âTo have to pretend to be someone else, in a world you know nothing about.â
âIt wasnât easy, thatâs for sure,â Vee admitted. âBut, well⊠itâs kinda what we basilisks do. We disguise ourselves, observe, lie, infiltrate, feed, survive⊠a lot of it was pure instinct. Iâm a natural liar.â
Samuel shook his head.
ââLiarâ is a bad word,â he said. âVery strong, very stigmatized. Say youâre a born actor and a natural talent at improv.â
This made Vee laugh.
âIf you say so,â she giggled. She cleared her throat and the next time she spoke, her voice was an exact imitation of Samuelâs. âA lot of it was instinct. Iâm a born actor and a natural talent at improv.â
âYouâre so gonna have to help me write my rĂ©sumĂ©,â Masha said to Samuel, prompting a brief chuckle.
âIâve been thinking of doing NaNoWriMo this year, so Iâve been practicing how to make sentences longer,â he explained. He then had to spend the next fifteen minutes explaining what that was and deflect questions his friends had about the novel he was totally going to write.
After breakfast was done with and the table cleaned up, a natural question arose:
âSo⊠what now?â Marco asked.
âIâm thinking that maybe I should take over as Luz for a little while,â Vee said. âBut Iâm not sure. For now though⊠I suppose the first order of business is to get Camilaâs car back. I know she has a spare key in the key cabinet. So I guess thatâs todayâs project.â
Masha looked skeptical.
âDo you have a driverâs license?â
âNoâŠâ Vee admitted. âBut I can turn into Camila, and Iâm sure thereâs some other identification lying around I could use. And thatâs assuming I even get pulled over, and why would I get pulled over?â
âNormally youâd have a point, but the police have been on edge lately with all the break-ins,â Samuel said. âMy mom told me sheâs been pulled over five times in her life, and three of them have been in the last month.â
âI think weâre missing something obvious here guys,â Masha said. âVee, do you even know how to drive?â
âI mean⊠noâŠâ Vee said slowly. âBut Iâm sure I could figure it out!â
ââŠIâm driving it home for you,â Masha stated, not leaving it up for debate.
âYeah, thatâs probably for the best,â Vee conceded.
Before they left, Vee quickly grabbed a few cups of brown pellets that she scarfed down. This made Marco raise an eyebrow⊠not that you could tell.
âWas thatâŠ?â
âDog food, yes,â Vee sighed, clearly having had this conversation before. âItâs filling.â
âWow,â Marco said, not sounding particularly impressed or surprised. To be fair, the Luz he had known at camp did seem like she might eat dog food. âYou werenât lying when you said you were hungry before.â
âIâm still growing!â Vee said with the smallest hint of a pout. Masha drew their attention away from the deck of cards theyâd been playing with, since this sounded interesting. âIâve got a lot of growing left before I become an adult. I havenât even been through second puberty.â
ââŠsecond puberty?â Samuel asked.
Vee nodded.
âYeah, itâs, uh⊠a thing with us basilisks. You know, like⊠maturing and stuff.â This did nothing to explain anything. âPoint is, Iâve got a lot of growing left to do, and I gotta eat for that.â
âHow big do you think youâre going to be?â Masha asked curiously. âOr like, how long, I guess?â
âOh, umâŠâ Vee scratched the back of her head. âAbout⊠twelve to fifteen-â
âTwelve to fifteen feet?â Samuel exclaimed, impressed.
âNoooooo,â Vee said. âTwelve to fifteen meters.â
There was a pause as the three humans processed this answer.
âBloody hellâs bells,â Masha finally whispered, their eyes wide with awe.
Marco whistled.
âBig snake,â he said.
âThatâs putting it lightly,â Samuel muttered. âFifteen meters is bigger than the titanoboa, the biggest snake in the fossil record.â
âHaha, yeah, I got tall genes,â Vee said nervously. She shifted into her human form. âShall we get going?â
xxXXxx
Gravesfield was beautiful around this time of the year. The warm browns, oranges, and yellows of the trees suited the quaint little town. The air was clear and crisp, with a hint of winter cold in the wind, though today was an unusually warm and sunny autumnâs day. A perfect day for a nice stroll with friends.
Veeâs three human friends still had a plethora of questions that needed answering, not just about her, but about the world she came from. At the same time, Masha resolved to make good on their offer to give Vee a tour of the town. Since Vee already knew her way around, they resorted to the second best option, their specialty: useless historical trivia. And so the conversation kept bouncing between the magical and the mundane as if dictated by a conversational metronome.
âSo on the Boiling Isles, all life and magic comes from the Titan whose body actually makes up most of the isles. All magic is made up of four basic elements, light, fire, ice, and plant. Itâs really cool too, because when I eat magic I can taste the different elements. So Amityâs abomination magic, for example, is mostly plant elemental, with a bit of light and hints of fire and ice. Now, Gusâ illusions on the other hand are almost completely light elementalâŠâ
âSo youâve all probably wondered why the library in town is called that, right? Okay, youâve probably never even thought about it, but R.E.O.S Gravesfield Public Library is a pretty odd name, donât you think? Turns out the old library burned down in 1931, and since this was during the Great Depression, there wasnât any money to rebuild it. But as luck would have it, the millionaire industrialist, philanthrope, and hobbyist ghost hunter Robert E.O Speedwagon came to visit Gravesfield in 1933. This place was well-known for being haunted even back then. He didnât find any ghosts, but he apparently took such a liking to the town that he offered to personally fund the construction of a new library. Thus, it was named after him. Speedwagon was an interesting fella, because he wasnât born into wealth, no, he started out as a thug on the streets of victorian LondonâŠâ
âReally, I swear, dog food isnât that bad. Dogs are supposed to be manâs best friend right? Why would you feed your best friend something thatâs gross? Amity, Gus, and Willow tried some, and they didnât think it was half bad. Then again⊠Hunter nearly threw up⊠and so did Luz. HuhâŠâ
âSpeaking of ghost hunts, one of my favorites has got to be Mr. Hunter, and he actually visited Gravesfield once. As I recall, he wrote that while he didnât find any ghosts, there was undoubtedly something eerie about this place that he couldnât put his finger on. Like a subtle hum in the air, inaudible to the human air but still felt in your body. He visited the old graveyard while they were doing some digging and reburials, so maybe he could somehow sense the presence of the titanâs blood? Because I really do believe some people have extrasensory perception. People will say that âOh, the Stargate project never found any psychics,â but do you really think anyone with real psychic abilities would tell the government? Best case scenario, you get locked up and experimented on for the rest of your lifeâŠâ
âNo, no, Iâm not exaggerating, itâs an island on top of the body of an ancient giant. Itâs just like that one story you told at camp Masha, about that giant that was killed by some gods who made the world out of its body.â
âOh, you mean the norse creation myth? I love that one, itâs so metal. So in the beginning, there was a land of fire, a land of ice, and a great gap between themâŠâ
It didnât take too long for Samuel and Marco both to realize (and the fact that Marco noticed just went to show how obvious it was) that they were being slowly excluded from the conversation. There was no malice or ill will behind it, no. It was more so the fact that Masha and Vee seemed to only have eyes and ears for each other.
Vee looked at Masha with such affection and attention whenever they started talking, you could almost see her ears perk up under her hair. And Masha was always up for talking about history or ghosts or whatever else interested them that day, but the excitement with which they spoke to Vee was unparalleled.
As the odd bunch reached the center of town, it had become pretty clear what was going. Marco and Samuel had unintentionally become the third and fourth wheel on a date.
âOoh Vee, youâve got to try the new chai latte theyâve got at Robinâs Roast,â Masha said excitedly. âDo you boys want anything?â They added, once they remembered the boys existed and were present.
âNo thanks, I donât like coffee,â Samuel declined. âBâsides, I promised Iâd be home by lunch, so I better get going.â He glanced at Marco. As per usual, Marcoâs expression was nearly impossible to decipher, but it seemed like he got the hint.
âYeah, and I only drink water,â he said. This was true; he only ever drank regular water. At most heâd treat himself to some ice water. He had never explained why. âAnd I probably should get home as well. See you around!â he said and waved as he and Samuel went on their ways.
âSee ya!â Vee said and waved back. She turned to Masha. âAnd Iâd love to try one of those chai lattes.â
âGreat. My treat,â Masha said and started leading Vee towards the cafe.
Vee came to a sudden stop though just before they could enter.
âOh uh,â she mumbled.
âWhatâs the matter?â Masha asked.
âUmâŠâ Vee mumbled. âI⊠donât really wanna see her,â she whispered and gestured at someone through the window.
Masha took a peek inside the almost empty cafe.
âWho, Clara?â they asked, spotting one of Luzâ classmates. She was easy to recognize, with her bright blonde hair with a streak of pink. âDid you or Luz get into a fight with her?â
âWha-no, not Clara, the other one,â Vee said and pointed at the only other person in the room.
âMaya?â Masha said, surprised.
âYou know her?â
âSorta,â Masha shrugged. âBelieve it or not, but Iâm a frequent customer at The Magic Circle, thatâs where I get all my books on the occult and paranormal. So we kinda know each other. What about you, why donât you wanna see her?â
âWell, uhâŠâ Vee mumbled. âWe actually went to The Magic Circle the other day while weâre trying to figure out what that old rebus was about, and, uh⊠we kinda⊠got kicked outâŠâ
âAh, I see,â Masha said, a small smile playing at the edge of their lips.
âReally, it was mostly Gusâ and Willowâs fault,â Vee said defensively.
âIf you say so,â Masha snickered. âDonât worry, Iâll go in and face this challenge alone,â distorting their voice into a dramatic growl, making Vee giggle.
âAlright, Iâlll be waiting somewhere around. I donât wanna stay too close, lest she see me.â
Masha nodded and entered the cafe. Vee turned around and started walking away in a very natural and unsuspicious manner, not at all reminiscent of someone who had just spotted someone who they really did not want to spot them.
She rounded the corner of the block, and realized too late that she had found herself back at the scene of the crime. Literally; The Magic Circle was cordoned off with bright yellow police tape.
What in the When did this happen?
Vee approached slowly, watching out for shards of glass on the pavement. Most of them had been swept up and to the side, but there were a few missed glittering in the high sun. Someone had broken open the door, nearly ripping it off its hinges, sending glass flying everywhere in the process. Not only that, but the metal bars that were supposed to stop anyone that had forced open the door had been cut and bent out of shape. Someone really wanted to get into that store.
A fleeting scent reached Veeâs nose, and she instinctively took a deep breath. She dared a little bit closer, almost to the point where she touched the police tape. She could hear people talking and moving inside, likely investigators trying to figure out who was behind this crime. It was not the noise that brought Vee close though, but the scent.
There was a faint smell in the air, a smell Vee recognized. Not from the realm of humans, but one from the realm of demons. It wasnât magic, but rather the memory of magic, the âsootâ and âsmokeâ of a spell. It smelled like someone had performed magic here⊠but no one, not Amity, not Gus, nor Willow had cast any spells while they were here. And even if they had, that was two days ago. Surely the smell would would have faded away into nothing by now⊠surelyâŠ
xxXXxx
The familiar smell of ground coffee beans and freshly baked pastries greeted Masha as they entered Robinâs Roast, well before the employee behind the counter could. They threw a glance at the sign showing customers that had managed to get themselves permanently banned. A pale woman with grey hair and bright golden eyes and a wild smile; Marilyn. Except that was not her real name. She was Eda the Owl Lady, a powerful witch from another world. She had come here once, tired to pay with a raccoon, cursed the croissants, and then ran away. To be honest, from what Vee had told them, this Eda seemed like an icon of chaos and unadulterated confidence. In other words, very much the kind of person Masha aspired to be.
Masha nodded to Maya before going to place their order. Two chai lattes, and these ones were the best in town. Well, they were the only in town, but still. They were good, Vee was sure to love them. After a moment of consideration, Masha decided to grab two two cupcakes as well. They had a chocolate-and-coffee frosting and were decorated with white and black hearts.
Without thinking, Masha reached into the pocket where they kept the deck of cards. Their thumb brushed over the topmost card. The Red String.
â⊠on a date?â
âHm?â Masha hummed and spun around to face the voice taking to them. It was Maya, sitting by her lonesome with a by now cold coffee.
âYou on a date?â she repeated, causing Mashaâs brain to malfunction.
âWha-? N-no, itâs not a date! Weâre just friends.â Incredibly enough, Masha managed to stutter forth the exact series of words that anyone who was on a date but didnât want to admit it was a date would say. Amazing. They felt their cheeks begin to heat up.
Maya, as expected, looked unconvinced.
âYeah sure. And your âfriendâ with the green hair is real subtle.â
âYou⊠saw her?â Masha said, keeping their tone low. Even if Veeâs other friends hadnât done a crime, it was probably for the better not to draw too much attention to the basilisk hiding amongst humans. They glanced at Clara, who looked absolutely miserable over in the corner of the cafe, sulking with a half empty coffee mug.
âYeahâŠâ Maya said slowly. âKind hard not to, with the green hair and bright orange sweater. Sheâs like a walking traffic cone.â
That image was enough to make Masha forget their nervousness and start chuckling. Maya didnât joke often, but when she did, she did not miss.
âShe thought you might be mad at her,â Masha explained, still keeping their tone low. âShe said that last time you two met didnât end so well.â
âWater under the bridge,â Maya said. She stirred her coffee with a spoon, not that it did much good since it was already cold.
ââŠwasnât it less than two days ago.â
âLot of water passes under the bridge in two days,â Maya said with a shrug. She tapped a coin lying on the table. It looked like it could be gold, though it probably wasnât, and it had a spiral symbol on it. âBut you can let her know that her friends arenât gonna get in trouble if they come back. I literally could not be arsed to report that stolen costume. And, well⊠with what happened, another missing costume isnât that big of a deal.â
âWhat, what happened?â Masha asked, slipping back to normal conversational tone. Something else had happened at The Magic Circle since then? This was news to Masha.
âYou didnât see it on the way here?â Maya raised her eyebrow. Masha had never claimed to be great at reading facial expressions, but they could somehow decode exactly what Maya meant, calling Masha out on being⊠distracted by their company.
âIf it was something at The Magic Circle, then no, we came from another direction,â Masha said quickly, internally cursing their traitorous body for pumping excessive amounts of blood to their cheeks.
âYeah, well, someone broke into the store,â Maya said. âCompletely trashed the front door. Hence why Iâm here instead of at work.â
âOh no, thatâs terrible,â Masha said. Genuinely, that was their favorite store in town. It was a much-needed haven for a social outcast enby goth like them. âThatâs what, the fifth this month?â The last month or so had seen an unprecedented number of break-ins and thefts happening in the otherwise peaceful little town. The last place to be hit was a private workshop. The thief had made off with thousands of dollars worth in tools, car parts, and electronics. âWas anything stolen?â
Maya nodded.
âMhm. No cash though, which is weird, didnât even touch the safe. No, they stole some costumes and a bunch of jewelry. And cassette tapes, which is even weirder to me. If they were originals, then maybe theyâd be worth something, but the ones we have are cheap replicas for nostalgiaâs sake.â
Out of the corner of their eye, Masha saw Clara suddenly get up from her chair and hurry out. In her haste, she bumped into Masha. She mumbled a quick sorry and was gone before Masha even had the time to tell her it was fine.
âGeez, what lit a fire under her ass?â Maya said dryly, watching through the window as Clara all but ran her way from Robinâs Roast.
âI dunno, maybe she realized she was late for her class on being a bitch,â Masha said. They almost regretted saying that immediately, because in the grand scheme of things, Clara was not that much of a bitch⊠though she was far from a saint. Still, it was a funny joke that almost made Maya laugh.
âYeah, probably,â she said. Her eyes flickered to the floor. âYou dropped something.â
âOh, thanks,â Masha said and bent down to pick up the Hexas Holdâem cards that had slipped out of their pocket when Clara collided with them.
There were three cards on the floor. Now, youâd think that since The Red String, The Two-Headed Snake, and The Light were the three topmost cards in the deck, those would have been the ones to fall out, but youâd be mistaken. With a slight frown, Masha gathered the cards and looked at them.
The Sword and Shield featured a winged sword and an ornate shield. The card invoked the imagery of a knight or soldier, brave and loyal. Itâd be a pity to stain such beautiful things with the blood of war and conflict.
The Golem showed a large and brutish figure made from purple clay. It was probably supposed to be one of those abominations Vee had mentioned Luzâ girlfriend (Amity?) used. A figure crafted with magic, made to defend or attack, but with little will of its own.
The Whip was just that, a whip, though the tip of this one was replaced with a snakeâs head. Whips were the weapon of oppressors and animal tamers, who ruled though fear of pain and punishment.
âOh yeah, and the thief also stole all those cards too,â Maya said, snapping Masha out of their thoughts and back to reality. âWhat were they called, Hex nâ Holdâem?â
âHexas Holdâem,â Masha corrected, shoving the cards back in their pocket.
âRight, right⊠I think we got them from that creepy conspiracy nut.â
Masha nodded.
âJacob Hopkins. I got my deck from him as well.â
âYou know him?â Maya asked.
âNot really. He used to work at the Historical Society,â Masha explained, which was met by a sympathetic grimace from Maya. âAnd yes, he really is as crazy as you think. Or worse even. Did you know heâs an actual flat-earther?â
âNooooooâŠâ Maya said slowly, in utter disbelief. âThat canât be true! I though the whole flat earth thing was just a bad meme.â
âI wish I was kidding,â Masha said while shaking their head. âFlat earth and witches from Mars, ancient aliens that gather in the ruins in the woods⊠you can see why he got kicked out of the GHS.â
âGood riddance, by the sounds of it,â Maya said.
At this point, the man behind the counter decided he was tired of listening to Maya and Mashaâs banter, and so he cleared his throat to get Mashaâs attention.
âR-right, sorry,â they mumbled. They quickly paid and with only some difficulty, managed to grab both cups and the paper bag with the cupcakes.
Maya was a gentlewoman and got up from her seat to hold the door open for them.
âGood luck on the date,â she said, which, despite the playfulness to her voice, still sounded genuine deep down.
âItâs not-â Mashaâs words were cut off by the door closing.
Masha wasnât privy to Maya sighing and sitting back again, reaching for the spoon to uselessly stir her coffee again⊠only to discover the spoon had, as if by an invisible hand, been bent out of shape.
As Masha exited back out onto the sidewalk, they scanned the street for Vee, finding that she was nowhere within sight. Following a hunch, they rounded the corner and indeed, there she was.
Vee was standing in front of The Magic Circle, dangerously close to the trashed door, almost touching the police tape. She was sniffing the air, her eyes closed in concentration.
âGood Goddess, what did you people do!?â Masha said loudly, startling Vee. She almost jumped out of her own skin as she spun around.
âNothing, I was just curious!â she said quickly, before she even registered who it was talking to her. She relaxed when she saw who was talking to her. Masha noticed her hair move as her big adorable ear moved underneath. âOh. Funny. Real funny coming from you, considering youâre my alibi.â
âI dunno, they say criminals always return to the scene of the crime,â Masha said, trying to sound genuine. âAre you sure it wasnât you?â
âPositive,â Vee said dryly. âNo, I really was just curious. I thought I could smell somethingâŠâ She threw a quick glance at the wrecked door and security bars with the hint of a frown. âBut itâs probably nothing.â
âHow about we get going again then?â Masha said, holding up the goodies from Robinâs Roast. âThe teaâs getting cold, and iâve still got many useless. I mean, â interestingâ historical facts to tell you. Oh, and I got us a little something extra,â they said and shook the little paper bag, though gently, as to not spill any of the still hot liquid.
Veeâs face lit up at the prospect of food and drink.
âGladly,â she said excitedly and took the cup Masha was offering. As they started walking away from the depressing sight that was The Magic Circle, Vee smelled the tea carefully.
âYou were right, this is amazing,â she said.
âY-you do know youâre supposed to drink it, right?â Masha asked while taking a sip themselves.
âOh, I know,â Vee said and took a careful sip. âBut thereâs not much difference in smell and taste to me.â
âReally? Canât you feel any taste?â Masha asked, intrigued. There was still so much about their friend they didnât know. They recalled what Vee had talked about before, how she normally didnât chew her food, so maybe it did make sense that she didnât have much of a sense of taste.
âNo, I have a sense of taste, but my sense of smell is a lot more refined,â Vee clarified. âDidnât you ever wonder how I became the best seeker in hide and seek back at camp?â
This took Masha a second to process. It was true that whenever the camp counselors made the kids do hide and seek among the barracks or in the nearby woods, âLuzâ was always the best at finding people⊠she even earned a little gold star for it, one of many.
âYou⊠you were tracking us⊠by scent?â they said slowly. Vee nodded with a big grin, revealing Masha probably had a very funny expression.
âYeah,â Vee said, clearly holding back laughter. âI remember the very first time we played hide and seek, and I was so confused that no one else was trying to mask their scent. Thatâs when I realized humans just donât have that good a sense of smell. Uh, no offense, you humans have a lot of great qualities, especially yo-I mean-â
âThatâs why you showed up covered in mud!â Masha exclaimed, suddenly remembering one of the weirder things âLuzâ had done, and one of the few times she got in trouble at camp.
âThat and camouflage,â Vee laughed, prompting Masha to start laughing as well.
Once the laughter died down, the two friends could continue with their walk through town. Masha offered Vee one of the cupcakes.
âAw, these are so cute,â Vee said, taking a good look at the muffin, before it was to be devoured.
âA cute cupcake for a cute girl,â MAsha said before they could stop themselves. Being unable to see their own face, Masha wasnât sure if that sentence made them blush harder than Vee, but they suspected that might be the case.
âG-gee, th-thanks,â Vee stammered. âI-I think youâre cute too. B-but in a cool way! Youâre like the coolest person I know! Wh-which I know doesnât mean that much because I really donât know that many people, at least when compared to the average human, which Iâm notâŠâ Her sentence trailed off at some point before it devolved into complete gibberish.
And so, in only a few seconds, the atmosphere between the two friends changed entirely. They spent a few minutes in awkward silence, wandering the streets of Gravesfield while eating their cupcakes and drinking their tea.
Masha decided to break the silence.
âSo, uh⊠did you say you could smell magic as well?â the asked, recalling something Vee had mentioned offhandedly the night before.
Vee nodded.
âI can track magic by scent as well.â She suddenly smiled again. âBut I can do more than just track,â she said. âI can tell all sorts of things by smell. Like, did you know Marco uses the same kind of dandruff shampoo as Camila?â
âI didnât know Marco used shampoo,â Masha said. âIâve never been able to smell anything from hm other than that body spray he insists on using way too much off.â
âIt really doesnât smell that goodâ Vee agreed. âOkay, but I can also tell that Samuel really need to do something about his foot fungus.â
âEeeeew!â Masha exclaimed. âGross!â
âI know,â Vee said with a nod. âItâs been pretty bad for a while now, but I noticed that itâs gotten even worse. Iâm serious, it canât be healthy.â
âEw, ew, ew!â Masha repeated while holding their hands over their ears. âTalk about something else.â
âO-okay, um⊠âVee thought for a moment. âOh, I know, something else I can do. I could tell instantly that your mom was pregnant, right when I first met her.â
âŠ
âSHEâS WHAT!?â
xxXXxx
It took Masha a bit to calm down after that bombshell. The revelation that there were going to have a younger sibling within a couple of months was bad enough, but it was made even worse when they realized that⊠it must have happened while they were away at camp. Vee was profoundly apologetic about the whole thing, meagerly saying she thought they knew already, which only made things yet worse, because it was apparently an obvious thing too.
Eventually they calmed down, largely thanks to Vee distracting them by asking for more historical trivia.
Vee was a very attentive listener. As Masha had noticed before, they could notice her ears move and perk up when she heard something she thought was interesting. And those big bright eyes were so full of life and wonder at everything. Even when it came to those subjects most people who were not already interested in history found boring and irrelevant. Though Masha made sure to omit some of the more gruesome details, especially regarding the witch hunts.
The two of them spent about an hour walking around Gravesfield, enjoying their chai lattes, cupcakes, the pleasant weather and each othersâ company.
As Masha set the course, they dragged Vee along in any random direction, based more so on vibes and any interesting facts they could think of. So it was quite unintentional on their part that they end up where they eventually did end up.
It was towards the south edge of town, where at one point, there had been a big push towards development. Land had been purchased and forest cut down to make way for new housing and businesses. Pretty much all of those grandiose and ambitious ideas had been abandoned for a variety of reasons⊠and one huge reason, the primary reason really, was what Vee and Masha found themselves looking at.
Masha came to a halt when they realized where they were, an abrupt halt that took Vee by surprise. She followed Mashaâs gaze, beholding the modern ruins.
The entire area was cordoned off by a chainlink fence to keep modern urban explorers out⊠not that it had succeeded, as the gate had been forced open, and was only kept closed by a rock someone had placed in front of it.
Beyond the fence was a large field of asphalt, which had once had lines for parking spaces, though since long worn out. Cycles of heat, and rain, and cold without any upkeep had over the years made the asphalt start to crack. Life, ever persevering, had started to reclaim the area, with grass, weeds, and flowers growing from the cracks.
On the other end of the old parking lot stood the remains of a building. Crumbling slabs and blocks of concrete, with rusting metal beams and rebar sticking out of it like the bones of a rotting corpse. Almost every visible wall that was still standing was covered in graffiti, some so old that it had started to fade away.
Masha broke the silence.
âThat⊠used to be a big department store,â they said slowly. âBuilt in 1998, it would even remain standing for a decade. Shoddy workmanship, corrupt inspectors approving subpar construction, and the ever-present desire of those who already have more than they need to earn even more, to increase the profit margin by even just a fraction of a percentâŠâ They stopped before they got too carried away. They had spent a lot of time looking into this case, and everything they had learned had made them more angry. They took a deep breath to calm themselves down. At their side, Vee had a mixed look of confusion and worry.
âAre⊠you okay?â she asked quietly. She started to reach out, but stopped halfway.
âYeah, Iâm fine, itâs just⊠it makes me mad,â Masha said, though Vee didnât look very reassured. âIt was during a summer of heavy rainfall that part of the roof collapsed,â Masha continued, doing their best to slip back into history teacher mode. âTwo people received minor injuries, one employee and one customer. Examination of the wreckage as well as the original blueprints lead to the entire building being condemned and left here. The parent company promised to clean it up, but of course, nothing has happened yet. Itâs only been fifteen years after all, give it some time.â Again, Masha couldnât help but let the disgust seep through their words.
âIt was the opinion of several independent experts that a leak on the roof, a problem which was known about by the staff, lead to supporting beams beginning to rust and for the roof to weaken,â Masha continued. âFurthermore, partway through the construction, there was a change of plans and part of the air conditioning system was moved, putting additional weight on a part of the roof that was not designed to bear it. One investigator went as far as to claim that the construction company had knowingly used substandard materials in order to cut down costs. Of course, they were never taken to court for this.â
Masha stepped on a small pebble on the ground, rolling it under their shoe and fiddling with it. Vee stood by, silently waiting for the next part of the story.
âI was here on that day,â Masha said finally. âI wasnât old enough to remember, I was only a little over a year old when it happened, but my dad has told me the story. It was in the afternoon on the seventh of June, 2007. My parents had been visiting my momâs family living in the next town over. On the way back home, they stopped by here to get something for dinner.â
Masha stopped and pointed at a spot close to the ruins.
âI donât know if you can see it, but thereâs some flowers growing in some of the bigger cracks over there. Mom and I planted them there on dadâs birthday last year. I donât remember what the flowers are called, but theyâre supposed to represent life.â
They cleared their throat.
âAnyway⊠it had been raining cats and dogs all day, so dad was supposed to head in alone while mom waited in the car with me. But just as dad was about to leave⊠I started crying. He said that I was sleeping before, but the suddenly⊠I sat up and started crying. But not just crying⊠he said⊠he told me that I was screaming. And that he had never heard me scream like that, not before, not since, not even when I broke my arm in second grade.â
Even the brief mention of that painful memory made Masha rub their arm, even though it was completely healed.
âSo⊠dad stayed, you know, to try and figure out why I was screaming bloody murder. And⊠thatâs when they heard a a loud rumbling and a terrible crash. Mom said that at first she thought it was thunder, and that maybe it was a lightning bolt that frightened me. But no, the sound was not thunder, it was the roof collapsing⊠right above the entrance. If my dad had left when he was supposed to, if I hadnĂ€t started cryingâŠâ
âThen he wouldâve been caught in the collapse,â Vee finished the sentence, met by a nod from Masha.
âMhm.â
âYou saved his life then,â Vee said tentatively, still not sure why Masha was telling her this.
âIn a sense,â Masha mumbled, their hand in their pocket, fidgeting with the Hexas Holdâem cards. They pulled out the deck and held them up for Vee. They spoke slowly, hesitating. âAre⊠you sure thereâs no magic left in these?â
Vee frowned and took the cards. She smelled them carefully, flipping through the deck. It honestly looked kinda funny.
âNo,â she said after a little while. âNot even a little spark. Even the memory of magic is gone. All I can smell on them is you.â She handed the cards back and made an attempt at a smile. âThereâs literally not enough magic in them to do a card trick.â
Masha couldnât help but smile at the joke, and they couldnât help but giggle at how adorably proud Vee looked over herself for that pun.
âI really did think there might still be some magic left in them,â Masha said, shuffling the deck.
âWhy?â Vee asked.
âBecauseâŠâ Masha took a deep breath. Why was this so difficult to talk about? It really shouldnât be. âLast night, at the Haunted Hayride, just before we ran into you and Jacob⊠I drew some cardsâŠâ
One more deep breath. Inhale, exhale. This was the moment. Time to see if they really were crazy.
They drew the first card in the deck.
âThe Two-Headed Snake. A being that is dual in nature, something that is not what it appears to be at first,â Masha said. They handed the card to Vee, who was looking⊠how would you describe the look? Eyes wide, mouth open and jaw slack. Flabbergasted, perhaps? One might even go as far as to say she looked gobsmacked.
They drew the second card in the deck.
âThe Light illuminates and reveals things in the dark.â They handed that card to Vee.
They drew the third card in the deck.
âThe Red String. A deep connection.â Masha swallowed. âLike friends, or people who are destined to meet.â They handed that card over to Vee as well. âI didnât know it at the time, but in hindsight⊠itâs an odd coincidence, right? The Two-Headed snake is obviously you, a snake with multiple faces. Then we have the light which reveals things, just like how you revealed the truth to us, shed light on the situation so to say. And The Red String, well⊠we were obviously connected, since we became friends at camp and then ran into each other again, even after you became someone else.â
âThat⊠does⊠make sense⊠kinda,â Vee said, talking slowly as she tried to process what was going on.
âAnd itâs not only that, but this night, I shuffled the deck again and I drew those exact same three cards,â Masha said, their voice ramping up as they got more worked up. âAnd now I pulled the same three cards again! That canât be random chance, it just canât! I thought there might be some magic left in the cards, but if there isnâtâŠâ The sentence trailed off.
Of course they had thought about it many times before, of course, what kid hadnât? That dream every misunderstood kid has, the dream of being special. Masha had poured over books, badly produced documentaries, and no end of shady internet forums talking about psychic powers and the like. People whi claimed they could see ghosts, or bend spoons, or see the future. susually, these people wanted you money, but every so often there appeared to be someone genuine. And even more rarely, there appeared to be someone who really could do the magical things they claimed.
âActuallyâŠâ Vee said slowly, scratching the back of her head. She gave the three cards back to Masha, who shuffled them back into the deck. âThereâs no magic in the cards, and they werenât enchanted with oracle magic, so they couldnât tell the future anyway⊠but maybe thereâs something⊠special about you. Because, umâŠâ Her gaze fell to the ground, like she was avoiding eye contact. âYou do⊠smell kinda weird.â
âWeird in what way?â Masha said a little too quickly, for the moment forgetting what they were talking about and everything Vee had said before that.
âI-itâs not b-bad or anything, just⊠strange,â Vee assured them, still not meeting their eyes.âYou smell of⊠metal.â
ââŠmetal?â Masha said, confused. âWhat kind of metal?â
âItâs not really like any metal I know,â Vee clarified. âItâs more like a metallic smell.â
âAnd thatâs weird?â Masha asked, trying to get Vee to explain just what she was talking about.
âYeahâŠâ Vee finally looked up again, meeting Mashaâs eyes with hers. âI was super confused when we first met, because no other human smelled like you. They all smelled like soap, and hormones, and regular stuff. And you did too, but you also had that other smell. But⊠you remember Dr. Jante?â
Masha nodded. Of course they remembered the head honcho at camp. It was undeniably ironic that Reality Check Camp, which aimed to make weird kids ânormalâ was created and lead by Dr. Jante, a man who was inarguably a massive weirdo himself.
âHe smelled like that too,â Vee said. âSo I just kinda figured some humans smelled like that. But if what youâre saying is true, then maybe there is something more to it. Maybe⊠maybe humans can do magic too! My kind evolved to track witch magic, not human magic, so maybe thatâs why I wouldnât recognize it!â
âD-do⊠do you really think so?â Masha said. It actually took them some effort to hold back a tear. Vee, someone so incredibly special, a real demon from a world of magic and miracles thought they might be magical too. It was everything they could've ever dreamed of.
âI mean, what else could it be?â Vee said enthusiastically. "You said it yourself, the chances of getting those same three cards three times in a row are astronomical. So if a funny coincidence is off the table, then whatâs left?â
âCould I really be magic? For real?â Masha asked, their voice shaking, not out of stress, or anger, or sadness, no. Out of joy; they had a big dumb smile on their face. They looked down at their hands, halfway expecting sparks to fly from their fingertips. âCan that really be true?â
âi donât know that it couldnât be true,â Vee said with a shrug and a big smile of her own. âWhy donât we ask the cards?â
âOh⊠yeah!â Masha said, excited. Of course, what kind of fortune teller were they, standing here asking questions, when they should be consulting the cards. They shuffled the cards again while Vee shuffled next to them to get a good look.
The first card had an image of a black bird.
âThe Raven,â Masha said, saying the first thing that came to their mind. âAn oft maligned bird, itâs nonetheless intelligent and beautiful in its own way.â
The next card showed a single arrow with an ornate metal arrowhead.
âThe Arrow. A⊠weapon of war, orâŠâ Masha bit their lip, trying to figure out what the card was trying to tell them. âDirection? Showing the the way or going somewhere.â
The third cad had a crystal ball from which a ghostly figure was emerging.
âThe Spirit. A teller of the future summoned to give wisdom or aid to the living.â
âSeems clear as day to me,â Vee said. She pointed at the first card. âThe bird is obviously you, âoft maligned, but intelligent and beautiful.â And this arrowâŠâ Vee moved her finger from The Raven, in the direction of The Arrow, which was pointing at⊠âThe Spirit. Thatâs the symbol of the Oracle Coven, and they can see the future.â She beamed at Masha.
âIâŠI.â Masha didnât know what to say. They finally lost the battle against the tears, as small droplets of joy started rolling down their cheeks. âThank you,â they whispered, leaning in even closer to Vee. âYou have no idea how much this means to me.â
âO-oh, itâs really no big deal,â Vee laughed awkwardly, her face becoming a deep red color. âI jus-â
Masha interrupted her by pulling her into a deep hug. Vee made an âEep!â sound and stood frozen for a second before she returned the embrace, holding on to Masha hard.
She held on very hard.
Almost a little too hard.
âV-vee,â Masha said after about a minute. âItâs.. getting hard to breathe.
âOhmygosh, so sorry!â Vee yelled and let Masha go, nearly pushing them over in the process. âIâm so sorry!â she said again, hr face red as a beet. âI, uh⊠constrictor instinct?â
Despite being short of breath, Masha couldnât help but laugh at that, which in turn made Vee giggle awkwardly.
âYou know,â Masha said as they dried their tears. âWhen we first started on this walk, I didnât expect to learn this much about myself. Mostly I expected to teach you boring history facts and maybe to learn a bit more about you, andâŠâ They stopped at a realization. Something they, both of them, had forgotten. Something kinda important.
âWhat is it?â Vee asked, noticing the change in Mashaâs expression.
ââŠwe forgot the car, didnât we?â
ââŠwe did.â Vee sighed. âAw, shoot.â The walk back would be almost an hour.

Going back in time a bit, to when Clara left the cafe in such a hurry. She had gone to the right, the opposite direction of The Magic Circle. She did not want to see the scene of the crime, she was desperate to avoid it. Coming to Robinâs Roast, so close, had been a mistake.
What no one knew at this point in time was that if Clara had walked past The Magic Circle at that moment, past Vee, the basilisk in hiding⊠then this story would have had a very different ending. Sadly, that was not to be. Fate, it would seem, has a sense of humor.
To Be ContinuedâŠ

ok quick thoughts, spoilers behind the cut.
Pros:
Halle. HALLE. H a l l e. Her voice, her face, her mannerisms. They took what made Ariel special in the animated movie and built on it and she was the perfect person to pull it off.
Her beauty was distracting.
So glad they finally got a singer for a live action, I couldnât take another B&B autotuned disaster.
Made me want to get to the nearest rock and play mermaid ngl.
I had my doubts with Jonah but he did a great job with Eric, played the shy, kinda awkward potato prince charming to perfection. Loved that they expanded his backstory and his interest in adventure and the sea. Also A+ for the movie knowing he had a white shirt on while surrounded by water and using every chance it had to drench him.
Eric still being caring and worried about Ariel even under Ursulaâs spell? 10/10 no notes.
He came to chew bubblegum and be dreamy and he was all out of bubblegum.
Halle and Jonahâs chemistry was insane, I need them to do ten movies making eyes at each other.
Seriously the movie could have been 2 hours of them interacting in that library and it would have been money well spent.
or just two hours of them being cute smol and tol in a boat idc
TRUE LOVE INDEED
Canât wait for this movie to be out in D+ so I can reblog all the gifs.
Part of Your World and all reprises were ofc gorgeous. Vanessaâs Trick is haunting and exactly what one would want for a siren song. For the First Time is gorgeous and underrated, felt very Broadway-esque. Ericâs song was corny but in a good way.
The rest of the songs are adequate but are not as good as the original ones.
Gotta said, song aside, the Kiss the Girl scene was more endearing in this version. When she helps him figure out her name?
Melissa was good as Ursula and made the character her own, though I think she was not as scary as she could have been. Better than I expected, though.
The actress that plays Vanessa knew she had 5 minutes to make an impression and used them to the fullest. Delightful.
Cons:
The CGI felt unfinished and so did the color grading/lighting. I edited all the movie images in this post (just played with the saturation and the contrast) and Iâm mediocre at best. HIRE TUMBLR EDITORS, DISNEY.
Halle deserved to wear more outfits, I can't believe Disney missed an opportunity to sell more dolls. Would have given her a dress for each day on land and the water dress. Mouse, I thought you liked money.
we could have had it all
Wanted more of her sisters tbh. And less Triton, Javier phoned it in imo. I know Triton and Arielâs relationship is an important part of the original movie but idk if it was his half assed acting or me wanting more of the sisters, but I wasnât moved.
Flounder's weird character design was saved by his stellar voice actor and Sebastian grew on me, he was hilarious. Scuttlefina was tolerable but gosh sheâs always playing the same character, stop casting her in everything.
Less I say about Scuttlebutt the better. Kids are probably gonna love it, though.
The ending was kinda weird? It felt rushed and the battle with Ursula was disappointing. Which is a surprise because the OTHER stormy scene at night was wonderfully done.Â
Up to Ursula taking Ariel back to the ocean it felt really cohesive but the second Triton appears to save her it was like they were trying to speed things up and it got... weird.
Didnât mind Ariel being the one that killed Ursula, after everything she put her through.
Cannot believe the movie robbed us of Jonah screaming âI lost her once, Iâm not gonna lose her again!â
Overall it was a well paced (up to the finale), entertaining, charming movie. Despite its faults, the only Disney live action I want to rewatch (outside MAYBE Cinderella).
8/10 Justice for the foam dress.

Part 9
Part 11
Masterlist.
âItâs been a while!â
That voice. You freeze, your hand on your mug tightening. You slap on a smile and turn around.
âErm. Yeah.â You look at the drow male approaching your table. You want to run, but you force yourself to stay calm. If any of your companions noticed your discomfort, no one said anything.
âHow has it been?â He slips to the empty seat beside you, the one Astarion had vacated minutes ago to get you dinner. You had been starving, but all those thoughts disappeared as you looked into those emerald eyes. Those eyes had haunted you for almost a decade. âYouâve⊠well.â He eyes you up and down. âYouâve changed,â he says, obviously intrigued.
You shrug. âHealthier diet, exercise routine, all that.â Some of your companions finally notice your new seatmate.
âIs that-â Karlach begins, shocked.
âCassian. Pleased to meet you,â he offers her his hand, and she shakes it. Her eyes lock onto yours, and you give her a quick nod. I can handle this, you say through tadpole-speak.
Karlach and Gale knew all about Cassian. Your first, in all the ways that mattered. He had made you feel like you were the most important girl in the world, and then in a heartbeat made you realize you were worthless. It wasnât completely his fault - you had spent so many years trying to win him back, to make him love you, that you had broken yourself up in the effort. He would flit in and out of your life, reigniting that fire and then snuffing it out just as fast every time he did.
Gale perked up as he heard the name, and he gave Wyll a quick tap on the arm to end their conversation and to signify the reason why. He gives the man a wave, but was cautiously watching, ready to help if things went south. More importantly, he was watching out for Astarion. He wasnât sure if youâve told him, and was not sure of how heâd react.
Karlach chuckles to diffuse the weird silence. âKarlach. I- uh- yeah, Iâve heard about you,â she admits, knowing she had already outed herself.
Cassian straightens up imperceptibly. âYou have? No doubt Tav here is why.â He puts a friendly arm around your shoulders. âHer and I go a long way. Would you introduce me to your other friends?â
You gulp. Slowly, you point out each person and their names. They all wave or nod as they are mentioned. Before you finish, a cold hand drops to Cassianâs shoulder.
âI believe youâre in my seat,â Astarion hisses. On his other hand he has your bowl of stew. Cassian arches his eyebrows at him, almost as if he found him entertaining.
â-and thatâs Astarion,â you finish, biting your lip. âAstarion, this is Cassian.â
The vampireâs eyes flick to yours and then to Karlach, as if a quick message was being passed along them. His grip on the bowl tightens, but he smiles, a smile thatâs all teeth and fangs.
âMy, my. Cassian! What brings you here?â He puts the bowl on the table. âCome to break her heart again? Iâd like you to know that would be impossible now,â he adds, all bravado and smugness oozing from him. But you can see the uncertainty in his eyes. Why hadnât he been told?
Cassian laughs humorlessly. âWhat we had was⊠complicated. I donât expect you to understand. As it is,â he holds his hand up, where a ring was on his finger. âI am already spoken for.â
And yet, the way his eyes dragged along your body was obvious to everyone on the table. Astarionâs hand dropped to his dagger, his anger starting to cloud his judgement, when another hand stilled it. Gale had slipped behind him, predicting this would happen.
âI got you a seat,â Gale prompts, keeping his voice level. The moment broken, Astarion lets himself be seated to the other side of you. The moment heâs there, you slip your hand over his under the table and squeeze tightly. He does not miss a beat.
âWell- so is she,â he says plainly. âNo rings just yet, but I would greatly appreciate it if you kept your arm off my wife.â
You turn to him, eyes wide, and he gives your hand a reassuring squeeze. Even now, when heâs unsure of the situation, heâs protecting you. You turn back to Cassian, smiling. âIâm glad to know we both found what was meant for us,â you say, shifting yourself backwards towards Astarion so that the drow had to let go of you. You didnât want it to escalate at all.
He takes a moment to eye Astarion up and down, assessing his replacement. He then looks to you, and the smile he gives you is oddly genuine. âA shame, then, but I am happy for you.â He gives everyone a final look and then makes a show of grabbing his pocket watch.
âOh, would you look at the time! I have to go. This has been fun, though. Tav,â he says and gives you a quick hug. âSee you around.â
Before you can even react, heâs gone. You can feel the collective tension drop from everyone in the table.
Karlach breaks the silence. âThat was Cassian? I understand why you went mad for him,â she chuckles.
For a second, Astarion is quiet. His eyes were staring holes into the bowl of stew. Then he quickly recovers, smirking. âKarlach, I suggest you have your eyes checked. Either that, or your taste.â
She laughs it off, and the night goes on without another hitch. You know not everything is as it seems though. Your partnerâs eyes are a little too distant.
He leaves for the rooms early, and you quickly follow suit.
Heâs seated on the bed, his shirt off, which meant he was preparing for bed. You sit beside him, eyeing him carefully. âIâm sorry,â you mumble.
âFor what? For your ex to come dropping by as I get you dinner? Oh-â he laughs bitterly, âI meant your ex that you havenât been able to get over for the past decade.â He had seen it all in Karlachâs mind.
You take a deep breath. âYes, it was a long time. And⊠and Iâm sorry I never told you. I didnât want to burden you. You already have so much on your plate.â
He scoffs, but when he looks at you, his eyes are soft and wide. âYou never are a burden, darling.â He wraps his arms around you, and you two slowly lie down, your head on his chest. âI have given you my problems to deal with, so let me deal with yours as well.â
You shake your head. âCassian isnât even a problem, though. He hasnât been in a while. Especially not when you came around,â you add.
âStill. I would like to know more about your life.â He presses a kiss to the top of your head. âBut I wonât lie - I wanted to tear his throat out.â
You stroke his chest gently, tracing shapes absentmindedly. âJealousy doesnât suit you, love.â
He rolls his eyes. âNot jealous. I just realize I want everyone to know youâre mine.â The last word was almost a growl. He picks up your hand, turning it in his hands.
âA ring like that would suit you, I admit.â
You freeze, looking up at him. Youâve always dreamed of it, but you never thought heâd be the type to want that. âReally? I didnât thinkâŠâ
âNeither did I.â His eyes meet yours, and they are full of affection and adoration. âI-â
I love you.
It was on the tip of his tongue, but he held it back. âI mean, things can change. In time,â he added, as though he expected you to know what he was about to say.
You nod. Youâre slightly disappointed, but as always you understand. âI know.â Then you give him a tight hug.
âLetâs go figure out all our problems first, yes? Before anything else,â you say, giving him an out.
âAh- of course! Thereâs every chance weâll die, too, so thatâs something else to look forward to!â He says, a little too cheerily.
Just as fast, he drops the act, tilting your chin up so he could kiss your lips.
âI promise you, darling. You wonât have to wait much longer,â he whispers, his eyes falling shut.
You kiss him back, hands gently running through his curls. Youâre okay with whatever heâs willing to give, wheneverâs heâs willing to give it. That thought passes to him through your tadpoles, and he sighs softly, pulling away to meet your eyes. His are wet with happiness.
âThank you,â he says, holding you tightly again.
For now, that is enough. There are so many things to worry about - his master, for instance - but right now, heâs content.
